Get ready for one of the strangest flavor duos you’ve seen. A new ranch ice cream has arrived at Walmart, and we aren’t sure whether to be scared or psyched.
That’s right — you’re about to get a whole new taste of the frozen dessert you know and love. Famous ice cream parlor Van Leeuwen teamed up with Hidden Valley Ranch to create this novelty ice cream variety. The unlikely partners took to social media to announce their new ice cream flavor on March 10, which happened to be National Ranch Day.
On March 20, The Hidden Valley – Van Leeuwen ranch ice cream pints hit select Walmart stores across the country. They won’t be available for long, so you’ll only have a short period of time to grab this savory-sweet treat if you dare. Here’s everything we know:
The new ice cream flavor tastes like ranch with a touch of sweetness.
We haven’t had the chance to try this quirky new flavor ourselves, but Van Leeuwen says it has all the flavors of ranch — like buttermilk and flavorful herbs — with an added touch of sweetness. This creates a tasty treat that pairs perfectly with savory snacks.
Hidden Valley Ranch says it’s a “creamy mix of savory and sweet” and recommends topping it with crushed pretzels or potato chips for a spot-on salty crunch.

3,500 U.S. Walmart stores should have the ranch ice cream pints, which arrived on Monday, March 20. Each pint costs $4.98.
You’ll have the chance to try this special edition flavor for a limited time. It’ll only be available through May 28, 2023, so be sure to pick up a pint before then.

The Hidden Valley Ranch flavor isn’t the only new Van Leeuwen variety this spring.
While the ranch-flavored ice cream is definitely a weird one, it isn’t the only one at Walmart stores this spring.
Van Leeuwen is releasing a bunch of other new flavors, including:
- Sweet Maple Cornbread: featuring maple ice cream with pieces of honey cornbread
- Blood Orange Chocolate Chip: featuring swirls of blood orange with dark chocolate chips
- Carrot Cake: featuring cheesecake ice cream with pieces of carrot cake
- Strawberry Shortcake: featuring vanilla ice cream, jam from Oregon-grown strawberries, and pieces of shortcake
- Honey Graham Cracker: featuring brown sugar ice cream with pieces of graham cracker pie crust and swirls of honey
- Limoncello Cake: featuring bright lemon ice cream and pieces of sweet brown sugar cake.
All these flavors will also be available at Walmart for a limited time, at $4.98 a pint.
