We are frequently asked, “How does one save money on groceries without spending all their time couponing?” Here are two tips for keeping it real and not letting coupons take over your life!

Stop the chase and avoid burnout.

Don’t chase down every deal on TheKrazyCouponLady.com or you’ll run yourself ragged!  Chose two to three stores to focus on instead.  We recommend selecting one drugstore, one grocery store and, if you like, one supercenter.

Attempt to visit these stores no more than once per week.  Stay organized.  Shop early in the week and don’t let yourself obsess about going back again once you get home. 🙂  (You know what I’m talking about!)

Know that sales are cyclical.  Stockpile slowly.

Heather and I both have shared some of our over-stockpiling experiences in our book, Pick Another Checkout Lane, Honey. Heather once stocked up on 30 boxes of toothpaste when they were $1.00.  And I stockpiled high-fiber instant oatmeal before realizing it gave my kids diarrhea!  There are plenty of reasons that a little patience and persistence can do us all a lot of good when it comes to stockpiling!

It’s important to understand that if you see a great deal on a product you love, it’s probably not the last deal you’ll see this decade.  Sales cycle through regularly.  If salad dressing is free this month, it’ll probably be free again in two more months. Pace yourself, maintain some balance, and don’t end up with a crappy disaster like I did. 🙂
