A good stock-up sale on chips and crackers is an ideal way to ensure snacks are always on hand. And there’s no need to worry that those snacks will expire before being eaten up because it’s easy to freeze them. Learning how to freeze correctly not only prevents freezer burn, it helps preserve crispness, taste, and freshness. Crackers and chips won’t be soggy when thawed out if they have been wrapped carefully.

How to Freeze Crackers & Chips

  1. Remove the sleeves of crackers from the original cardboard box. Leave unopened crackers and chips in their original wax or plastic packaging. Place opened crackers and chips in plastic freezer bags or wrap them in plastic wrap. Wrap them again in aluminum foil to help protect the crackers from moisture and freezer burn. If desired, divide the crackers and chips into individual packages to remove smaller servings from the freezer.
  2. Using a permanent marker, write the date and type of chip or cracker on the packaging.
  3. Place in the freezer. Be sure to allow them plenty of room so they don't get overcrowded and break.
  4. Store for up to 6 months in the freezer.
  5. Remove chips and crackers from the freezer and allow them to defrost at room temperature for a few hours.
