Looking for a way to buy Target furniture or decor without letting the expense hit your family budget? Aren’t we all?!

The best way to do it is to earn free Target gift cards to use on the things you may not have extra money for.

So if you have time but you’re short on money, you have to check this out:

1. Download Drop and earn points toward free Target gift cards every time you shop Target.

Drop is like a universal store loyalty program. You choose five stores or restaurants you frequent the most and then every time you shop those, you earn points toward gift cards.

Choose Target as one of your stores and start earning. The number of points you earn toward gift cards varies by retailer, but it’s usually between 2 and 16 points per dollar. You’ll earn 8 points per dollar at Target.

It takes 1,000 points to earn $1. But once you link your debit or credit account to the app, you’ll earn points without taking any action.

2. Trade in your old electronics at Target for a gift card.

Take your old iPhone, Kindle Fire, gaming systems, and other retailers’ gift cards you don’t want to Target, and they’ll trade you for a Target gift card.

Gift card values are based on what your item is and the shape it’s in. Note that you won’t always get the highest value possible for your items, but it’s a hassle-free way to get rid of old stuff and earn Target gift cards.

3. Get free gift cards for certain Target purchases.

Best-case scenario is when you find Target’s own gift card promotions on items you’re already planning to buy at Target. There are small promotions like “Free $10 Target gift card with a $50 diapers & wipes purchase.” But there are also larger, department-wide promotions like “Free $10 Target gift card with apparel purchases of $40 or more.”

You can find these offers inside the Target app. Tap “Wallet” at the bottom and then tap “Coupons.”

Offers rotate frequently, but there’s always an offer available. Also, download the KCL app, and we’ll tell you when the smaller grocery gift card promos happen!

4. Download Shopkick and earn “kicks” you can redeem for Target gift cards.

You can earn “kicks” or points a few different ways with Shopkick: Walk into certain stores, scan barcodes of certain products (even if you’re not buying them), visit certain online stores, buy or view certain online products, watch certain videos, or take a picture of your receipt when you buy promotional items.

Roughly 250 kicks equals $1 cash back, and you can cash out once you’ve earned 500 kicks. Here’s a breakdown of kicks per dollar:

  • 500 kicks = $2
  • 1,250 kicks = $5
  • 2,500 kicks = $10
  • 3,750 kicks = $15
  • 6,250 kicks = $25

5. Take a picture of your receipt, and upload it to Fetch Rewards for free Target gift cards.

There are two ways to earn points with Fetch Rewards — you can earn by buying certain brands that qualify for points, or by shopping for specific products featured in the app. To earn points, just take a picture of your receipt through the Fetch Rewards app.

One thousand points is equivalent to $1, and you can cash out once you earn 3,000 points (or $3).

6. Sign up for Gift Card Granny Rewards, and earn points toward free Target gift cards.

Gift Card Granny is one of our fave discounted gift card websites. You can buy gift cards to all your favorite retailers and save up to 15%.

Gift Card Granny Rewards is a loyalty program where you can earn points every time you purchase a discounted gift card, refer a friend, sign up for the newsletter, and more. Trade in 1,000 points for a $5 Target gift card.

You’ll earn 200 points just for signing up. Then you’ll get 50 points when you share a gift card deal with a friend and 1-2 points per gift card you buy.

7. Opt for Target gift cards instead of cash when you cash out through Ibotta.

Most people don’t realize you can opt for gift cards instead of cash through Ibotta. If you’re hoarding gift cards to stock up on diapers at Target (or Hearth & Hand flatware!), this is a good way to do it.

You still have to meet the $20 threshold before you cash out, but it’s really not hard when you learn how fantastic Ibotta is.

8. Take surveys in your spare moments to earn free Target gift cards.

Okay, so you’re not gonna get rich taking surveys, and it’ll never be a substitute for a part-time job.

But the reason we take them is because in our spare time we earn pennies that add up to dollars. Waiting for dinner to cook? Take a survey. Waiting for your kids to finish soccer/piano lessons/dance? Take a survey.

There are tons of little moments throughout the day that you can use to make little money that adds up to big Target gift cards.

Here are three of our favorite survey sites:
