Although I love my smartphone for chatting with friends, texting my husband and keeping up with the latest news, the real reason that I’m attached at the hip to my phone is for the deals! I’m constantly using my phone to scan barcodes, find coupons and get cash back on purchases. And fortunately, there’s a new cash-back app, Shopmium, to add to the list!
Shopmium is a savings and coupon app that allows users to try new products for free or at reduced prices by providing cash back on purchases. The app, which has over 550,000 users in its home market of France, just recently launched in the U.S!
How does it work?
If you’re familiar with cash-back apps such as ibotta and Checkout 51, you won’t have any problems using Shopmium, which works in a very similar way. Once you purchase a product that’s currently being offered by Shopmium, you’ll snap a photo of your receipt and scan the barcode on the product to ensure it’s the correct product. After the Shopmium team reviews your purchase, they’ll deposit the cash back amount in your account. When you’re ready to cash out, simply choose "request my rebate" under your account info and the money will be sent to you via Paypal.
What types of offers does it have?
The offers on Shopmium change every week but have included deals like $1.00 cash back on Ritz Bits, $1.00 cash back on two boxes of Belvita and even full rebates on items such as M&M’s and Lindt chocolate bars! Yep, you heard that right—free chocolate! Enter “GHUUAEPE” for a free Lindt bar! In addition to flat cash back amounts, the app also offers select products at a discount. For example, $1.00 back was recently offered for Burt’s Bees Lip Balm. The app reimbursed users based on the difference between $1.00 and the amount that they paid for the lip balm. Another great feature of the app is that all offers are unique to Shopmium and won’t be found anywhere else!
What stores can I redeem offers at?
One of the best features of Shopmium is that there are no store constraints! You can actually redeem your offer at any store that sells the product. Just make sure that the store provides a computerized receipt that clearly shows the date, item and store name or your receipt may not be accepted.
What devices does it work on?
Shopmium is available in the iTunes Store, requires iOS 6.0 or higher and is available on Google Play with smartphones running Android 2.3.3 and up. The app also requires an auto-focus camera capable of displaying pixels of at least 470 x 320.
