If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably got a mountain of Amazon boxes piled up after all of your holiday shopping. You’ve probably also got less free storage space after opening all your goodies from Santa. It’s just the nature of the season. But what if we told you there was a way to recycle your Amazon boxes, declutter your home, and help people in need? Well, we found the solution: Give Back Box has teamed up with a variety of retailers to give you a free and easy way to get rid of your shipping boxes and donate some of your no-longer-needed clothing, shoes, and housewares.
We love this service, and you can take advantage of this free way to recycle, donate, and declutter. Keep reading to learn more about Give Back Box and how you can pack your own box to send to your local charity to make a difference in your community.
Everything you need to know about the Give Back Box.
Give Back Box is an organization that partners with retailers in order to give a second life to cardboard shipping boxes as well as no-longer-needed household items like towels, blankets, and clothes. The retailers help you find a local charity in your area and create a prepaid shipping label to send your goods. The boxes are routed to a participating local charity where goods are sorted and sold with revenue being used to help fund community-based programs.
Give Back Box accepts most any household items, but they currently cannot accept large electronics, any liquids, fragile items (glass), hazardous or volatile items, or ammunition in the boxes. The higher the quality of the items you send, the more you help. Keep in mind that these charitable organizations will be selling your unused items. The more money they make, the more they can do to help your local community.
Here are some great items to consider donating through the Give Back Box program:
- Gently worn clothing and shoes
- Lightly used toys and baby gear
- Pre-loved books in good condition
- Blankets and towels
- Coats, hats, gloves, and scarves
- Home decor items

How to send your Give Back Box.
Just follow a few super easy steps to fill and ship your Give Back Box. While there are a handful of retail partners to help fund your prepaid shipping label, you can use any corrugated cardboard box to ship your goods. Amazon was a well-known and popular partner in late 2022 but has since had some errors and issues with sending pre-paid labels due to its popularity. With the announcement that they’ll be cutting their AmazonSmile program, we wonder if they’ll also be ending this initiative.
Don’t fret — you can still review other retailers to send your Give Back Box in 2023! Here’s how.
- Open your box and enjoy your new items.
- Fill the now empty box with gently used goods from your home and seal it up.
- Use this tool to print your prepaid shipping label.
- Print the prepaid label and adhere it securely to the sealed box.
- Bring the box to FedEx, UPS, or USPS, depending on your shipping label. If USPS does package pickup in your area, you can also schedule a pickup!
If you don’t have a printer, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org and they’ll email you a shipping code you can use at the drop-off location with no paper packing slip required. You will need to download a new shipping label for every box you send, but there’s no limit to free labels. If you have boxes you purchased from other retailers, you can use this tool to print your shipping label, rather than the one above.
