Stop your kids from using their Contigo water bottle — stat!
A Contigo water bottles recall was just announced on February 19, 2020, but this isn’t the first time within the last year that Contigo water bottles for kids have been recalled. In August 2019, Contigo recalled a kids water bottle lid for the same reason and gave free replacement lids to consumers. This time it’s a little different.
Here’s the urgent information you need to know about this year’s recall:
If your Contigo water bottle has a black spout base and black spout cover, stop using it immediately.
Once you’ve identified these features, head to Contigo Recall and submit a request for a replacement bottle. There have been hundreds of cases where the spout itself has ended up in children’s mouths, causing a choking hazard, but only bottles with the black spout base and black spout cover were found to be defective.
Keep the defective bottle lid and plan to send it to Contigo free of charge as part of the recall process.
You could have purchased a defective bottle from Walmart, Costco, Target or another nationwide store between April 2018 – February 7, 2020.
The Contigo recall involves bottles that come in 13 oz, 14 oz, and 20 oz sizes. They also come in solid colors, stainless steel, and with graphics — sold individually and in two and three packs. This means a defective water bottle may not look like a child’s bottle, so be sure to check all your Contigo water bottles for black spout bases and black spout covers.
