Leap Day Deals 2028: What We Hope to See In Four Years

The next Leap Year is 2028. This means Leap Day discounts and freebies are four years away. While some of these discounts will only be available to Leap Day babies, many offers will apply to all shoppers, regardless of their birthday.

Although we don't know what deals we'll find on Feb. 29, 2028, we've put together our favorite Leap Day discounts and freebies from 2024, we hope to see again in four years.

One thing we do know is, if you’re a “Leapling” or “Leaper” (your birthday falls on Feb. 29), be prepared to show your ID for any Leapling birthday exclusive offers.

Leap Day is an extra day added to February once every four years.

Because Earth actually takes 365 ¼ days to circle around the sun, every four years, we have to add an extra day to the year to keep the calendar in sync. So it’s pretty special when there’s a Feb. 29 — which is why we see specials and deals rolled out in restaurants, hotels, and stores. 

The next Leap Day will be Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2028.

Since Leap Years happen every four years, the next Leap Day will predictably take place on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2028. In case it’s easy to forget, just always remember that Leap Years take place the same years as U.S. presidential elections and the Olympic Summer Games. Don’t worry — we’ll remind you before then.

We predict Chipotle will offer Chipotle Rewards members a promo code for free guac with any regularly priced entree.

Duck Donuts

Duck Donuts will most likely celebrate Leap Day with a $2.29 deal on their Cinnamon Sugar Donut and med. hot coffee or cold brew.

Dunkin'

Enjoy a discounted coffee when you order through the Dunkin' app or scan your Dunkin' Rewards ID at checkout in store. Rewards members will earn bonus points all day on Leap Day 2028.

Firehouse Subs

On Feb. 29, 2028, we predict Firehouse Subs will offer their Name of the Day deal; a free med. sub when you buy a med. or large sub if your first name begins with L, E, A, or P. Offer is valid for in-store orders only. You must show a valid ID.

Hooters

Dine in at Hooters to enjoy $2.29 beer or select appetizers (cheese sticks, fried pickles, chips and queso, lots-a-tots, cheese and pretzels, or buffalo shrimp) via the Hooters loyalty member app.

Hungry Howie’s

We hope Hungry Howie’s offers their buy one pizza with 1+ toppings at regular price, you can get another large one-topping pizza for just $0.29 more deal on Leap Day 2028.

While Marie Callender's Restaurant & Bakery doesn't have any Leap Year specific deals, we expect them to have a month-long discount on one of their pies.

Wendy's, will most likely have a Leap Day 2028 food deal (in 2024, it was a free Cinnabon Pull-Apart with no purchase necessary).

Look for a wings Leap Day deal at Wings and Rings (in 2024, it was buy 10 wings, get 5 free).

Yogurtland

Yogurtland Real Rewards members can expect to receive bonus rewards points on any orders they place on Feb. 29, 2028.

Starbucks

Starbucks may offer select Starbucks Rewards accounts a BOGO Leap Year deal (past Leap Day offers have included a BOGO free handcrafted drink and a $3 handcrafted drink).

We hope free admission returns for Leap Day 2028 at the Sharlot Hall Museum.

The STRAT Hotel (Las Vegas)

Any guests born on Feb. 29 can expect to get a free STRAT Skyjump (reg. $129.99 in 2024) next Leap Day.

On Leap Day 2028, we predict Staples will again offer 29,000 passport photos for free via their app.

Tom Quick Inn (Pennsylvania)

Look for a rate discount at the Tom Quick Inn on Feb. 29, 2028.

Wollman Rink (New York City)

We predict the Wollman Rink will offer a free day of skating on Leap Day 2028.

Build-a-Bear Workshop

For Leaplings only, if you visit any Build-a-Bear Workshop location on Feb. 29, 2028, you can pick up a Birthday Treat Bear at a discount (in 2024, the bear was $4, reg. price $14). You will have to present your ID to get this deal.

Look for the Home Run Inn to give away pizzas to the first 29 leap year babies (18 years or older) to present a valid ID on Feb. 29, 2028.

Insomnia Cookies

We expect Insomnia Cookies to offer Leaplings (with valid ID) four free cookies and a birthday party in-store for free.

Watch for Jackson's Taziki's to offer their dine-in guests, with a Leap Day birthday and valid ID, freebies like a pack of Taziki's cookies, a slice of baklava, or a slice of baklava cheesecake.

Krispy Kreme

Leaplings can excpect a FREE dozen original glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts, no purchase necessary. You'll need to prove your birthday with a valid ID.

Milk Bar

The Milk Bar will most likely offer Leap Year babies a free 6-inch birthday cake and discounted cereal milk soft serve (in 2024, that was $2.29).

Oh My Cupcakes (Sioux Falls locations only)

Look for Oh My Cupcakes to give Leap Day babies free cupcakes in 2028.

Leap Day occurs every four years

Leap Day occurs every four years, minus century years that aren’t exactly divisible by 400. Next Leap Day will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 29 in 2028. The purpose of Leap Day is to keep the calendar synchronized with the astronomical year, which is approximately 365.25 days, while our calendar year is 365 days. Adding this extra day helps account for the extra 0.2422 days in the astronomical year, so seasons don’t shift. Skipping the century years not perfectly divisible by 400 prevents a huge discrepancy from building up over centuries. This means the years 2100, 2200, and 2300 won’t have leap days.
