In the midst of coronavirus, it’s great to see so many stores protecting the vulnerable senior population.

First, we saw a wave of stores offering senior shopping hours — and now, Stop & Shop and Uber have taken it a step further by providing half-price rides to the grocery store.

A special coupon code takes up to $20 off Uber rides for grocery trips.

Shoppers age 60 and older can get half-priced rides by entering the code “STOPSHOPUBER” in the payment section of the Uber app. The discount takes up to $20 off the ride price.

Tip: Save even more by purchasing a discounted Uber gift card from Raise. Get $5 off your first order.

The discount is available 6 to 7:30am, and may be used twice a week.

Seniors can take two trips a week using the coupon code, during Stop & Shop’s senior shopping hours.

The ride program applies to all 400+ Stop & Shop stores.

Check the list of Stop & Shop locations to see if there’s one near you. Stop & Shop is located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey.

Anyone can order a ride for seniors who don’t have access to Uber.

To order a ride for someone else, tap “where to” in the app, enter the senior’s address in the pickup location box, and put their neighborhood Stop & Shop address in the destination box. You can schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance — just make sure the senior knows to use your name at pickup.

At checkout, enter the coupon code to get the promotional rate.
