Every year on Aug. 6 National Root Beer Float Day is celebrated with a few national deals. For example, A&W typically celebrates the food holiday by offering a free small root beer float to anyone who walks into one of their participating locations on that day. No purchase or coupon required. And while I do love myself some coupons, I love free and easy even more.
A&W actually dates back to 1919, when an entrepreneurial Roy Allen established a root beer stand at a Word War I veterans parade. Since it was such a success, he teamed up with his friend Frank Wright (the W of A&W) to become a permanent root beer fixture in the city of Lodi, California. From there A&W took off and that’s the origin story of the brand we know so well today.
Now, listen, while it may not be the most widely celebrated of the many, many food celebrations (like Chocolate Chip Cookie Day on Aug. 4), do not sleep on National Root Beer Float Day 2024. A&W: Free small root beer float on National Root Beer Float Day, Aug. 6 — no purchase necessary.
When I think of root beer I automatically think of A&W. Okay, Barq’s sometimes, but mostly A&W. So if you’re looking to satisfy your root beer float craving on the cheap on Aug. 6, 2024, you’ll likely want to head to your nearest A&W location (there are 492 of them in the U.S.).In 2023 they gave away a small size float (reg. $4.41) just for walking through the door. No coupon or purchase necessary here.
Hamburger Stand: They had free root beer floats with purchase on Aug. 6.
If you live near a Hamburger Stand/Tastee Free, you can usually pick up a free root beer float on Aug. 6 with any purchase using a coupon (which looks an awful lot like Wienerschnitzel’s coupon below). Now, remember, you needed the accompanying coupon and make a Hamburger Stand to get your freebie last year. A regular order of fries here will run you around $2.19, or a single hamburger for $2.29 so you can score your free float.
Wienerschnitzel: Free root beer float with any purchase on Aug. 6 only.
Not to be outdone, Wienerschitzel is usually gets in on the National Root Beer Float Day action with an offer of their own. On Aug. 6, 2023 you coulda scored a free root beer float (reg. $3.99) with any purchase and this coupon. This promotion was available in-store only at participating Wienerschitzel/Tastee Free locations. One coupon per person per visit. And you had to pay the applicable sales tax. To get this deal on the cheap, I suggested buying a small order of fries ($2.99), a corn dog ($2.59), or a plain hot dog ($2.59? Any of these help you fulfill the purchase requirement without spending too much.
