We have a lot to say about why Target Pickup is one of our favorite ways to do a Target run — but the bullseye just gave us some incredible new reasons. Not only can you pick from more than 250,000 different products to be placed right in your trunk, but did you know that there are 240 Target locations across the U.S. that offer Target Pickup with Starbucks? That means you can pickup all your Target faves while also getting your Starbies drink — all via the Target app while you sit comfortably in your car.

If your Target location isn’t one of the select few that offers Starbucks curbside pickup yet, don’t worry, because Target has big plans for 2023, including Target curbside returns and curbside Starbucks pickup orders. Here’s everything you need to know about Target Pickup accommodating Starbucks orders, where it’s currently been rolled out, and more.

Target Pickup with Starbucks launched in early November at 240 Target locations.

Listen, not even my local Starbucks will run a coffee out to my car. But since early November 2022, Starbucks with Drive Up service launched at 240 stores in California, Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington and West Virginia.

If you’ve been bummed that your Target location hasn’t rolled this out yet, don’t worry: A Target Corporation press release from Feb. 23, 2023, confirms they are testing out the Starbucks with Drive Up service at new locations very soon. After all, they note that when surveying guests, “placing a Drive Up order for Starbucks was a top request.” Is anyone surprised? No, not at all.

Don’t forget: You can take advantage of all the Target Circle deals on Starbucks drinks when they happen, and yes, from your car as well.

How to add Starbucks to your Target order.

If your store is one of the 240 locations where the Target Pickup with Starbucks has rolled out, or to see if your store is testing the feature out, you can call your store and ask. Or you can place a free Target Pickup order in your Target app and test it for yourself. Once you get a notification that your order is ready for Pickup, you will alert Target that you’re “on the way.”

As soon as you alert the app that you’re on the way, the Target app will then ping you with an option to add a Starbucks order to your Pickup order. You can choose yes or no, and place your Starbucks order if you choose. Once you arrive, you pull into a parking spot, click “I’m here” in the app, type in your Target Pickup parking space number, and voila: Your Target order and your Starbucks order is brought right to your car door. Talk about easy.

Soon you’ll make your Target returns right from the parking lot.

Later this year, Target shoppers will be able to process their returns right from the Drive Up area. It’s unclear right now whether you’ll have to pair the returns with a Pickup order, but no matter what, you won’t need to schedule an appointment to use this service, as you can select everything you need via the Target app.

Brush up on your knowledge of Target return policy, and then look forward to the most wonderfully antisocial returns process ever.

Look out for a bigger selection of Pickup substitution items, too.

Sometimes Target doesn’t have exactly the item you order. When that happens, you have the choice to let them substitute the original item for a “backup item.”

In addition to adding Starbucks and returns to Pickup, Target is rolling out a larger number of backup items to their ordering system.

Target has claimed 98% success rate on their substitutions, but it looks like they’re trying to boost that.

Other new innovations coming to Target Pickup include Adult Beverage Pickup, as well as “Shopping Partner,” which will allow guests to send someone else to pick up their order. It’s safe to say that Target is truly giving everything that guests need — right there in the drive up lane.
