1. Quinn Nightstand ($499) vs. Wayfair Iron Nightstand 2-Drawer ($109.99)

west elm vs wayfair nightstand

The Quinn line is one of the most popular looks at West Elm, but $500 for one nightstand ($499, West Elm) is kind of expensive, especially if you need a matching set. But because the style is so popular, there are several dupes on the market right now. The best one we found is the Iron 2-Drawer Nightstand ($113.99, Wayfair). It’s almost identical in shape and size, down to the texture of the drawers. The only major difference is that the Wayfair version has standard drawer pulls, while the West Elm nightstand has them at the top of the drawers. With this lookalike model, you’ll spend $227.98 on a set of two nightstands — rather than $998.

“Exactly what I was looking for and so easy to put together!” — Wayfair reviewer

I have the pop-up coffee table ($599, West Elm) from West Elm, and it’s every bit as practical as I hoped it would be. But if it hadn’t been on major sale when I bought it, I could never have justified the price tag. The Gerdanet lift-top coffee table ($199.99, Ashley Furniture) has all the same features (plenty of hidden storage and a tabletop that lifts into a desk). Plus, you can save $400.

4. Mid-Century Show Wood Chair ($719.10) vs. Wayfair Hofstetter Upholstered Armchair ($219.99)

west elm vs wayfair wood chair

One of the reasons West Elm is so popular is that you can completely customize most chairs, couches, and other furniture. But that also means you’re going to pay a lot more. The price of the Mid-Century Show Wood Chair ($719.10, West Elm) fluctuates from time to time, but it can cost anywhere from $700 to $1,800 depending on which colors and fabrics you choose.

Our favorite dupe is the Hofstetter Upholstered Armchair ($219.99, Wayfair). While this chair’s pricing jumps around too, it normally hovers around $220. And although it only comes in five color options, it’s at least $500 cheaper. Better yet, you can have the Wayfair chair delivered within one week, compared to West Elm’s made-to-order chair which could take 10 to 12 weeks to come in.

“Assembly instructions are great. My hubby completed it in 15 minutes, and we are not even that handy.” — Wayfair reviewer

5. Reeve Coffee Table ($699) vs. Wayfair Bayamo Coffee Table ($229.99)

west elm vs wayfair coffee table

West Elm’s popular Reeve Coffee Table ($699, West Elm) features a gorgeous marble tabletop and a solid walnut base. Because it’s made with high-quality materials, it also comes with a high-quality price tag. If you’re looking to get the look without spending $700, consider the Bayamo Coffee Table ($229.99, Wayfair). Wayfair’s pricing jumps around quite a bit, but you’ll normally find it somewhere around $230.

The main difference between the two is that the West Elm table is made with real marble, while the Wayfair tabletop is faux. But since coffee tables typically get a lot of wear, it’s worth saving nearly $500 and opting for materials that aren’t quite as luxe.

“We love the lightness and durability of this table. Would look great in any space!” — Wayfair reviewer

8. Haven Loft Sofa ($3,498) vs. AllModern Miller Upholstered Sofa ($1,100)

west elm vs allmodern sofa

Since it’s usually the focal point of the living room, a sofa should be an investment piece that’s well made and lasts a long time. There are plenty of inexpensive dupes for the Haven Loft Sofa ($3,498, West Elm), but be wary of couches that cost a few hundred dollars. Many of them are not well constructed, so you’ll actually end up spending more money replacing them.

The Miller Upholstered Sofa ($1,100, AllModern) is still an investment, and the price can fluctuate a tad, but you can typically save more than $2,400 compared to the West Elm version. And it arrives faster, too. Since the West Elm sofa is made to order with your size and fabric preferences, you’ll have to wait a minimum of five weeks for it, as opposed to just two weeks for the AllModern option.

“Sleek and modern. You just need to assemble the bottom legs — a piece of cake. Beautiful fabric, and color and very stylish. Super happy with my purchase.” — AllModern reviewer
