KFC fans may be disappointed to hear that the fast-food chain is discontinuing some menu items due to their limited availability nationwide or their mixed sales reports. Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of the KFC chicken wings and popcorn chicken, they’re included on the discontinued list — along with a few other KFC favorites. KFC menu changes for 2023 may be surprising, but there are a few new menu items that KFC fans can look forward to.

Starting on Feb. 6, select KFC locations across the U.S. started offering two for $5 wraps (the Classic Chicken Wrap and the Spicy Slaw Chicken). Here’s everything we know about what will no longer be on the KFC menu for 2023.

KFC is discontinuing the fan-favorite popcorn chicken as part of a big menu overhaul.

Popcorn nuggets have been a fan-favorite at KFC ever since they debuted in 1992 as a limited-time menu item. They’re made with bite-sized pieces of extra crispy fried chicken. A large order of popcorn nuggets cost $3.99, while a combo with a side and a drink cost $5.49 — one of the more affordable meal options at KFC.

KFC is discontinuing popcorn chicken, along with other menu items, to streamline their menu and make room for new items. While it’s disappointing for popcorn chicken fans, it’s not uncommon for fast-food chains to make menu changes to adapt to shifting consumer preferences and streamline operations.

Popcorn chicken isn’t the only KFC menu item being discontinued. (Bye, chocolate chip cookies.)

In addition to popcorn chicken, KFC is making space on their menu by removing chicken wings, popcorn chicken, Nashville Hot sauce, strawberry lemonade, and chocolate chip cookies from the menu.

KFC has made several changes to their menu over the past few years; here’s a list of a few of the items KFC has discontinued in the past:

  • Kentucky Grilled Chicken in 2011
  • KFC Snacker in 2012
  • KFC Double Down in 2014
  • Beyond Fried Chicken in 2020
  • Little Bucket Parfait in 2021
  • Pickled Fried Chicken in 2021
  • Potato Wedges in 2021

KFC is testing a popcorn chicken replacement at select locations.

You might not have to wait long to get nuggets back on the menu; it looks as if KFC is testing a possible replacement for the now-discontinued popcorn chicken. Reports suggest that they’re testing new chicken nuggets in 8-, 12-, and 36-piece combos in select locations in Charlotte, North Carolina. While it’s not yet clear whether these nuggets will ever make it to a nationwide release, one can hope.

KFC is bringing back previously discontinued items to the menu.

Two KFC wraps on a tray

Even though KFC is discontinuing several items from their menu, there’s always hope for a future comeback. The Classic Chicken Wrap and the Spicy Slaw Chicken Wrap had been discontinued in 2014 but are coming back for a limited time in 2023 due to popular demand from social media.

Starting Feb. 6, you can get two KFC Wraps for $5 (a 16.7% discount, since they regularly cost $3 apiece) when you order online and in person. You can also get a KFC Wraps Combo for only $7.99, which comes with two wraps, a drink, and fries. The Spicy Slaw Chicken Wrap comes with spicy sauce, coleslaw, and pickles, while the Classic Chicken Wrap comes with pickles and mayo in a tortilla. Both wraps include an extra-crispy chicken tender.

We don’t know how long the wraps are going to be available; they haven’t announced it.
