The drugstore chain Rite Aid is home to all sorts of home, wellness, food, and living necessities which get discounted with plenty of weekly deals and promos. On top of that, Rite Aid actually has a pretty generous return policy, which means there’s a good chance you’ll get your money back no matter what you decide to return. Before you head to your local Rite Aid, let me tell you everything you need to know about the Rite Aid return policy and their general store hours.

And if getting money back is your jam, we’ve got a listing of the stores with the best return policies. (Oh, and speaking of money back, there’s probably some settlement cash waiting for you, too.)

Rite Aid Return Policy Overview

The Rite Aid return policy gives you 90 days for returns with a receipt.

You’ll have 90 days to make a return at Rite Aid if you kept your receipt (or have a Rite Aid Rewards card they can use to look up your purchase within 48 hours of the transaction).

When you make a return using your receipt or rewards card as proof of purchase, Rite Aid will refund the money back to your original form of payment.

TIP: According to their return policy fine print, the cash value of any coupons won’t get included in your refund — and you won’t get the coupon back. So if you used a $1 off coupon on an $8 package of toilet paper, when you return the toilet paper (unused, I hope), you’ll only get $7 back.

Without a receipt or rewards card, you’ll get store credit or an exchange.

The returns process is slightly different if you lost your receipt or didn’t swipe a Rite Aid Rewards card when you made your purchase.

Without a receipt, you’ll only get store credit in the form of a Rite Aid gift card or the chance to exchange it for something of equal or lesser value. Since they won’t know the original price you paid for the item, they’ll refund you the lowest promotional price for it over the last 45 days.

You’ll also need to show a photo ID when you make your return so they can track you.

For RiteAid.com purchases, the 90-day window starts the day your order ships.

If you buy something at RiteAid.com, you’ll have 90 days to return it. And the clock starts ticking the day your order ships — not the day you receive it.

You can return opened beauty items to Rite Aid.

Just like the CVS return policy, Rite Aid’s policy is pretty generous when it comes to beauty products. Their Beauty Guarantee lets you return opened — or even used — beauty items like foundation, lipstick, or eyeshadow to Rite Aid if you’re not happy with them for any reason. This applies to both in-store or online purchases.

And unlike CVS, Rite Aid doesn’t mention that a receipt is required for in-store beauty returns. But remember, they track receipt-less returns using your photo ID, so don’t abuse the system and try a new shade of lip gloss every week.

Returning online orders is free — but you won’t get a refund for any shipping costs.

In the nitty-gritty of the Rite Aid return policy, they seem pretty proud about having no return fee. But if you originally paid for shipping with your Rite Aid order (the standard fee is $6.95 per shipment under $34.99), you’re not going to get that back in your refund.

The only exception to this rule is if you’re returning something damaged or defective or if you received the wrong item by mistake. In that case, the shipping and handling fee will get refunded.

How to Return Rite Aid Items

If you bought something in a Rite Aid store, just bring it back to any location.

In-store purchases can be returned to any Rite Aid location. Simply bring your item back to a Rite Aid store with your receipt within 90 days. If you don’t have your receipt, remember that you’ll get store credit only, equal to the item’s lowest price for the last 45 days.

If you bought something on RiteAid.com, you’ll have to make your return by mail.

Rite Aid store locations won’t accept your online returns, so you’ll have to mail them back. If you bought something online from RiteAid.com, you have three options for returns:

Option 1: Return it through RiteAid.com.

  1. Log in to your Rite Aid account.
  2. Select the item you want to return.
  3. Rite Aid will give you a prepaid shipping label to print.
  4. Pack up your item and take it to your local post office to ship it back.
  5. Use the Return Number to track the progress of your shipment.

Option 2: Use the Exchange and Return Form.

  1. Complete the Exchange and Return Form located on the back of your original packing slip.
  2. Take your item to your local post office and ship it back. (Return shipping is free.)

Note: This option won’t give you a tracking number.

Option 3: Call Customer Service.

If you can’t find your order online or you don’t have the Exchange and Return Form from your original packing slip, you can call customer care at 1-800-748-3243 for help with making a return.

Rite Aid Return Policy Exceptions

rite aid gift cards

Gift cards, cigarettes, and a few other items can never be returned.

Rite Aid cannot issue refunds for certain items. Here’s the list of what you can’t return:

  • Cigarettes and tobacco products
  • Prescriptions
  • Prepaid cards
  • Gift cards
  • Money services
  • Costumes or costume accessories (unless it’s due to a defect)
  • Lottery tickets

Sexual well-being products have their own set of rules.

If you need to return any sexual health or wellness products that are defective, you’ll need to call Rite Aid at 1-866-237-9746 within 72 hours of receiving the item. You can also use their online chat if you believe the damage happened during transit.

You’ll have 30 days to ship the defective item back, and they’ll send you a replacement item in the mail.

If the 72-hour window has passed, you’ll need to contact the manufacturer directly for a replacement.

Rite Aid Return Policy Refunds

Expect your online refund within 14 days.

For Rite Aid returns via mail, expect to see your refund hit your card within 14 days. This is because the item needs to get back to the Rite Aid warehouse. Once it does, they will assess the item and give you a refund back to your original payment method.

There are two ways you can get a refund.

If you return something to Rite Aid, you can choose to get a refund issued back to your original form of payment, or you can get a Rite Aid gift card loaded with the refund amount.

TIP: When you learn to coupon at Rite Aid, be aware that items you buy using BonusCash are treated differently than items you buy with regular cash/credit. If you return a BonusCash purchase, your BonusCash will get reimbursed back into your account first, then you get a refund in cash/credit for the remainder.

You can also exchange Rite Aid items.

If you want to exchange something at Rite Aid for a different item, you totally can. Just be sure to tell the employee you are making an exchange.

To exchange something you bought online, you can indicate that on the Exchange and Return Form.
