If you’re like me, at this time of year your skin starts drying out like crazy. I used to shell out big bucks for pricey products that made big promises, but the secret to most of them was a simple ingredient called salicylic acid. Salicylic acid has been shown to unclog pores, eradicate dead skin and reduce redness, which is why many facial exfoliators and cleansers are made with this ingredient. And where else can you find this skin-saving component? In aspirin! Instead of shelling out big bucks for those fancy exfoliators, try a homemade version instead. To create your own exfoliator, dissolve 1–2 aspirins in a cup of water and exfoliate the skin gently with the mixture. Voila! Smooth and glowing skin for almost nothing! Note: Salicylic acid is a non-abrasive exfoliant, but be aware that side effects for some may include drying of the skin and stinging.
