Our service members deserve all the special perks. While Lowe's military discount isn't the only one out there, it's an easy way for troops to save on home improvement supplies.
At Lowe's, active and retired military members (and their spouses) get 10% off most full-priced items. You can't stack the discount with a Lowe's price match or any other Lowe's coupons. But without a solid deal, it's a sure way to save.
Unlike the Home Depot military discount, Lowe's doesn't limit how much you can save with 10% off. But their policy has exceptions you'll want to keep handy. I'll show you who qualifies for Lowe's military discount, how to enroll, and what you can and can't buy with 10% off.
What is Lowe's military discount?
Lowe's military discount is an unlimited 10% off. The discount works on most full-priced items in stores and online. Only a few exclusions apply, like major appliances and gift card purchases.
Once you enroll and verify your status, your military discount gets linked to your MyLowe's account, so the discount happens automatically when you shop online or enter your membership number at checkout.
Bonus: Active-duty military, veterans, and their spouses also get free MyLowe's Rewards Silver Key status, which grants you free shipping with no minimums and extra rewards points for every purchase.
Who gets 10% off at Lowe's:
Lowe's offers their military discount to active and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces, as well as their spouses. You qualify for 10% off at Lowe's if you serve (or have served) in the following military branches:
U.S. Air Force
U.S. Army
U.S. Coast Guard
U.S. Marine Corps
U.S. Navy
U.S. Space Force
National Guard
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
United States Public Health Service (USPHS)
You are not eligible for the military discount if you were dishonorably discharged or released for bad conduct.
Enrolling in Lowe's Military Discount
To get the 10% discount, Lowe's requires you to verify your military status and enroll online. They use a third-party verification program called ID.me. You may need to confirm a military email address or upload a military document to get verified, but they'll give you detailed instructions during the sign up process.
How to Enroll:
Verify your military status on Lowe's.com.
Complete the online verification form.
Create a MyLowe's personal account or sign in to an existing one.
Follow the instructions for linking your military discount to your MyLowe's account.
How to Use Your 10% Military Discount
In Stores
When you checkout, show the associate a valid photo I.D. and your MyLowe's card. If you don't have a MyLowe's card, you can give them your phone number instead to link your purchase to your account.
Online
After you enroll and verify your status, the military discount automatically applies to your online orders. Sign in to your MyLowe's account (the one that's linked to your military discount) to save 10% on Lowes.com purchases.
Military Discount Exclusions
While you can save 10% on most full-priced items at Lowe's, they do have a few exceptions. Lowe's military discount does not apply to the following purchases:
Commodities (like electrical cable, electrical wire, dimensional lumber, plywood, and OSB)
Fees
Gift Cards
Installation
Major appliances (including related accessories and parts)
Previous Purchases
Services (like rentals, labor, Lowe's delivery, shipping, or extended protection plans)
Does Lowe's limit how much you can save with the military discount?
Lowe's military discount is unlimited, so there's no cap on how much you can save with your 10% off.
In contrast, Home Depot's military discount has a $400 savings limit per year. So if you're eligible for both programs, Lowe's is the way to go.
Can you combine the military discount with Lowe's gift cards?
You can't use your military discount on gift card purchases from Lowe's. But you can pay for your purchase with a Lowe's gift card and still save the 10%.
That means you could buy a discounted Lowe's gift card on a site like Raise.com for 4% off, then get another 10% off when you use your military discount at checkout.
How does Lowe's military discount compare to Home Depot's?
Lowe's military discount tends to be better than Home Depot's military discount for one reason: Home Depot limits how much you can save with their military discount to $400 per year, but Lowe's offers unlimited savings.
The Home Depot military discount requires verification through SheerID, while the Lowe's discount gets verified through ID.me. So you'll have to go through two separate verification processes if you want to shop with both discounts.
