This simple concoction is good for glass surfaces. To make this spray you’ll need: 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol and 5 drops of peppermint essential oil.
To make homemade coconut oil foaming hand soap, you’ll need: a foaming soap dispenser, 2 Tbsp unscented Castile soap, 1–2 tsp coconut oil and 10–15 drops of essential oil(s) of choice.
4. Use a grapefruit (or lemon) dipped in salt to clean the bathtub.
Dip half of a grapefruit in coarse salt, and use it to scrub your tub. The lightly abrasive coarse salt and the citric acid found in grapefruit or lemons will help dissolve away stains — plus it’ll make your bathroom smell good!
5. Make your own shower cleaner and soap scum remover with dish soap and vinegar.
You’ll need to get a spray bottle, Dawn dish soap and white vinegar. Heat the white vinegar in the microwave until it’s hot, then measure equal amounts of Dawn soap to the white vinegar, and pour it all into the spray bottle.
Spray the mixture in your tub or shower and let sit for 30-60 minutes, then scrub and rinse.
6. Use lemon Kool-Aid to clean stains off the toilet.
Not only is it cool to tell your friends that you used Kool-Aid to clean your toilet, but the citric acid in the lemon (or orange) flavor will help freshen the bowl and get rid of stains.
Crush and drop four Alka-Seltzer tablets down any sink drain in your home, followed by a cup of white vinegar. Allow that to sit for about 10 minutes then rinse with a pot of boiling water.
Doing this on a regular basis helps keep your drains clear and also deodorizes the drain.
8. Use a microfiber cloth to make your own Swiffer pads.
Cut a microfiber cloth or bath towel into rectangles; or use the Swiffer mop head as a guide to gauge the correct size. Give it about 1.5 inches of overlap on the longer sides so you can tuck the ends of the cloth into the Swiffer mop cloth holder.
After use, throw it in the washing machine with your other rags.
9. Get rid of the soap scum on a shower door with a dryer sheet.
Use a mini-muffin tin along with 1/4 cup citric acid, a cup of baking soda, distilled white vinegar, and lemon extract to make homemade toilet fizz bombs.
You’ll need 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup hydrogen peroxide and a teaspoon of liquid dish soap. The hydrogen peroxide whitens, and the baking soda helps scrub away stains. It’s a win-win.
Vodka’s high alcohol content not only kills mold and mildew, but it’s also great for shining fixtures.
You can also get rid of mold by mixing ½ cup of Borax with ½ cup of vinegar. Make a paste, scrub with a brush, and let it sit up to an hour before rinsing with water.
17. Make a homemade all-purpose cleaner with vinegar, washing soda and dish soap.
