Face painting is one of the most economic options when it comes to Halloween costumes. Designs can be minimalist or intricate. The only limit is the imagination.

Mixing up face paint is a great project to do with children. Let them help customize colors before the face painting fun begins.

It’s easy to make face paint at home, and it’s a major money-saver. Follow this simple and safe recipe to make face paint at home:

  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • ½ teaspoon water
  • 2 tablespoons cold cream
  • Food coloring in assorted colors

Blend the cold cream, corn starch and water until smooth. Gradually add the food coloring, and stir until distributed evenly and the desired shade is achieved. Repeat, using a different color of food coloring, until you have a rainbow of shades. Cupcake liners placed in a cupcake tin make it easy to use as a painter's palette and makes clean up even easier!

Use disposable makeup wedges to apply and cotton swabs or craft paint bushes for fine lines and designs that require more control. The homemade face paints should rinse away easily with soap and water.
