If you were looking forward to heading into IHOP today for some free Fat Tuesday flapjacks, I’ve got bad news for you (and some good news).
Here’s what you need to know:
Bad news: There’s no Free Pancake Day in-store on Feb. 16.
Since 2006, IHOP has offered free pancakes in-store on Mardi Gras — a date that varies from year to year. Last year, it was Feb. 25 — just before Covid-related lockdowns began. This year, Mardi Gras (the day before the religious season of Lent begins) is Feb. 16.
To discourage capacity crowds during a time of much-needed social distancing, IHOP isn’t doing the one-day event in 2021. However. . .
Good news: IHOP will still give you a free short stack.
You have until March 31 to join IHOP’s email list, “MyHOP.” Each MyHOP subscriber will get receive an emailed “IOU” for a free short stack, which can be used at any point in April. (If you have multiple pancake lovers in your household, each person should register, because the coupon is good for one stack per customer)
Even more good news: You can get your free pancakes to-go.
While you won’t be able to join the ruckus during the one-day event, you’ll be able to enjoy eating those free pancakes from the comfort of your home.
The coupon for a free short stack works in-store, but now for the first time, it’ll work for orders placed at IHOP.com and in the IHOP app.
Free Pancake Day has been a fundraiser for charity.
IHOP has used free pancake day to raise more than $30 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Customers eating at IHOP may make donations as part of their final bill, and online customers can donate via www.ihoppancakeday.com.
Get (at least) 2 more coupons for free pancakes every year.
If you sign up for MyHOP, you’ll get a coupon for free pancakes on your birthday and every anniversary of your signup.
