Update: This article is old news, but you can still get up-to-date information and learn to shop T.J.Maxx like a pro!

TJMaxx (and sister stores Marshalls and HomeGoods) have had staggered reopenings throughout the country, and shoppers have been finding widespread discounts store-wide.

As coronavirus has closed stores for two months, stagnant inventory is now priced to move quickly, and now record crowds of shoppers have started showing up to get the savings.

As rivals Ross and Burlington hold historic sales of their own, TJMaxx & Co. is discounting most of the products in their stores with their “Big Big Big Clearance” event. How do the sales stack up? Here’s what we know:

More than half of the store has been clearance priced.

Red tags mean clearance prices at TJMaxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, and stores have put out red tags like crazy.

Some TJMaxx employees on Reddit said that about 90% of the store has been marked down, and a recent TikTok tour of a reopened TJMaxx seemed to verify that.

At our local store, it looked like about 50-60% of the store was on sale. Regardless, you’re probably going to find more than half of your store discounted.

Easter clearance is the #1 best deal right now at 75% off.

TJMaxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods stores were all closed on Easter this year, so it’s no wonder they’re looking to offload their holiday stuff.

All Easter merchandise is 75% off. We found a ceramic bunny and an Easter baking set — both originally priced at $9.99 — for just $2.50 each.

Compared to the other sales happening at TJMaxx & Co. stores right now, this is by far the best value.

Literally all the luggage is clearance priced.

We found a Bebe rolling suitcase that retails at $100 priced at $59.99, but has since been clearanced to $48.00. That’s a total discount of 52% (and only an extra 20% off the old TJMaxx price).

Most handbags and purses are also on clearance.

The number of clearance shoes has quadrupled.

We found that about half of all the shoes at our TJMaxx were clearanced. Stores with one rack of clearance priced shoes now have four.

But like the luggage, the biggest discounts TJMaxx seems to offer are about half off the “compare at” price.

Although shoppers have had some luck finding recognizable shoe brands on clearance at TJMaxx, for the most part, these are unknown brands.

Bigger discounts are happening at Ross and Burlington.

Plain and simple, discount department store rivals Ross and Burlington are offering deeper discounts than TJMaxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods.

Ross has made major headlines by discounting the majority of their products by at least 70%, and Burlington has reopened with a historic 50% off everything sale.

Ross and Burlington have made big discounts to their already-low prices; the biggest discount we found was about 33% off TJMaxx prices.

The best prices are yet to come at TJMaxx — keep an eye out for yellow tags.

While red tags are clearance prices, yellow tags at TJMaxx are final clearance prices — the lowest price an item will get.

Right now, TJMaxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods are seas of red tags, but historically, the store has yellow-tag clearance events in July and January to offload built-up inventory after the spring and holiday seasons.

Since TJMaxx is bound to have just as much, if not way more inventory on hand due to coronavirus, we might see a surprise clearance event soon.

Check back every Monday morning to see what changes; that’s when you can get your first look at the week’s new markdowns.
