Amazon has tweaked their delivery options so many times over the years. Various options have come and gone (remember when 1-hour delivery was new?). Well, Amazon's testing a new (and their fastest ever) delivery option in Seattle and Philadelphia: Amazon Now. Prime members and non-members alike can get a range of products in 30 minutes or less for a fee. Just add this to Amazon's many other delivery options, including their free same-day grocery delivery.

Here's what to to know about Amazon Now, including how much it costs and what you can use it for. Prime members will pay less for the service (it's just one of the many ways to save money with Amazon Prime).

What KCL Experts Think You Should Know

  • It isn't available nationwide: Amazon Now hasn't rolled out nationwide yet (it's just in Seattle and Philadelphia for now). But we've seen Amazon test new perks in select cities and then roll them out to everyone else later. Here's what to know so you're ready if and when Amazon Now becomes available in your city:

  • Look for the "30-Minute Delivery" option in the navigation bar: Select it to see what's available for 30-minute delivery in your area.

  • Amazon Now isn't free, not even for Prime members:

    • Prime members pay $3.99 per order.

    • Non-Prime members pay $13.99 per order.

    • If your total is under $15, you'll pay an extra $1.99 on top of the delivery fee.

  • Not everything is available for 30-minute delivery: This new service is mostly for daily essentials (think toothpaste, cosmetics, pet treats, diapers, some electronics, snacks, produce, dairy, and other things you might need ASAP).

How Amazon Now Compares to Other Fast Delivery Options

Amazon's not the only service providing fast delivery, but it's certainly one of the fastest. Here are some other options:

  • Walmart Express: Get delivery in as fast as 1 hour for a fee. It costs $10 on top of the regular delivery fee ($7.95 - $9.95). If you have Walmart Plus, you won't pay the regular delivery fee, just the Express $10 fee.

  • Target Same-Day Delivery: Exact speed depends (we've seen delivery in as soon as 90 minutes). It costs $9.99 per order, unless you have Target Circle 360, in which case it's free on orders of $35 or more.

  • Instacart Priority: Priority delivery gets you your order in 30 minutes - one hour. Select "Priority" at checkout and pay the $9.99 fee (yes, even if you have Instacart+ membership). You can also select 2-hour delivery for a $7.99 fee. Instacart partners with many local grocery stores and other stores (including Michaels, Best Buy, and more), so it's a good way to unlock fast delivery from a variety of places.

If you're already a Prime member, 30-minute delivery for $3.99 is a great value (and your cheapest option) compared to the options above. Not a Prime member? The value is less clear-cut, but paying $13.99 may be worth it to get your stuff fast.

Amazon Now doesn't replace Prime delivery options.

Amazon Now doesn't replace existing free and fast delivery options that Prime members already have. It's just an additional option if you're really in a hurry.

Prime members still get the following:

  • Free delivery in two days or less with Prime. This includes same-day and next-day delivery on select items in certain areas.

  • Free same-day grocery delivery (on select grocery items) for orders over $25.

  • Access to the $9.99 grocery delivery subscription for 1-hour delivery on all grocery orders over $35.
