If you’re a techie and a frequent Best Buy shopper, I’m here to tell you that they changed their loyalty membership program. The old 2021 Best Buy Totaltech program has been replaced with three tiers — two fee-based and one free, and the paid memberships start at $50 per month.
As of June 27, 2023, Best Buy’s new membership plans are My Best Buy, My Best Buy Plus, and My Best Buy Total. Instead of the one-size-fits-all model, these new programs are an attempt to appeal to different shoppers. Each level has its own perks, including free two-day shipping, 24/7 tech support, and early access to sales. I break it all down below.

With the new My Best Buy memberships, you’ll need to choose from three tiers: My Best Buy Perks (free), My Best Buy Plus ($49/year), and My Best Buy Total ($179/year).
If you aren’t a Best Buy customer, the first step to choosing a membership level is to create an account online or through the mobile app. Members need to be at least 13 years old with a valid email address.
Former Totaltech members should have gotten an email and invited them to upgrade, stay in the basic plan, or cancel their membership. They’ll continue to receive benefits through their renewal date. You can track membership points on the Best Buy app.
My Best Buy

Cost: $179.99 per year

- 20% off repairs (labor only)
- Product protection plans (up to two years) on most new Best Buy purchases, including AppleCare+

One thing to note: Best Buy’s Totaltech program was $199.99 per year and included 60 days to return most items. Even with the Plus and Total programs, you’ll still only get 14 days to return “activatable” devices like cell phones and smartwatches.
Best Buy credit card members are automatically enrolled in the free plan.
Best Buy credit card holders don’t have to worry about picking a plan because they’re automatically enrolled in the free, My Best Buy plan. As a bonus, you’ll get 5% back in rewards on qualifying store purchases. For a limited time, Best Buy is offering 10% back. Upgrades to Best Buy Total or Best Buy Plus can be done in stores or via phone.
If you decide that the free, entry-level membership isn’t giving you enough, you can upgrade in a Best Buy store or by calling their Customer Care at 1-888-237-8289. Just be aware that if you downgrade your membership, that you’ll lose certain benefits, like the included protection plan coverage for certain products.
If you change your plan within 60 days of initial purchase, Best Buy will refund you the difference you paid for your yearly membership minus any benefits or services used during the term. A prorated refund is given for memberships after 60 days.
