If you’re tackling a home renovation or minor repair, you’re likely no stranger to making a trip to the hardware store. Or several. Most homeowners know that a single trip to the store is often not enough, even if you think you have everything you need. But before you dash off to Home Depot in hopes of getting in and out quick, it’s worth asking the question: does Home Depot accept Apple Pay?
Sorry, contactless payment enthusiasts — it’s 2023, and Home Depot’s still not on board with Apple Pay or any other tap-to-pay method for that matter. But don’t worry, you still have options that are a little quicker if you shop with their app.

Does Home Depot take Apple Pay in 2023? The answer’s still no.

Even in 2023, Home Depot still doesn’t accept Apple Pay either in stores or online. They don’t do other forms of mobile payment either, like Google Pay or Venmo.
According to Home Depot, the reason they don’t accept any tap-to-pay options is that their registers aren’t equipped for contactless payments.
When I spoke with a Home Depot customer service representative in February 2023, they told me that they hoped to add tap-to-pay as an option in the near future. How soon “near” happens, we’re not sure.
TIP: Some people have had luck with using Samsung Pay at Home Depot, but Reddit users report that it’s hit or miss.
You can pay with cash, card, or check at Home Depot — or PayPal if you’re shopping online.

If you’re shopping in person, you can use cash, personal check, gift card, debit card, or credit card (including the Home Depot credit card, of course). Home Depot also accepts prepaid debit cards.
When you’re shopping on HomeDepot.com or through the Home Depot app (iOS / Android), you can pay with a debit card, credit card, or from a PayPal account.

Home Depot isn’t the only big retailer without Apple Pay.
Home Depot isn’t the only major hardware store that doesn’t accept Apple Pay. Shoppers at Lowe’s, Menards, and even Walmart face the same predicament, as both retailers aren’t set up for Apple Pay yet.
One hardware store that does accept Apple Pay? Ace Hardware. If you prefer to use Apple Pay, look for an Ace Hardware location near you.
