When Does Sam's Club Put Items on Clearance — And What's Worth Buying?

Our team of dedicated deal hunters looks for new Sam's Club clearance finds just about every week — and over the years, we've scored some serious wins. After hundreds of shopping trips (and plenty of time furiously refreshing Sam's Club's website), our staffers have scored hot clearance deals like $4 kids' hoodies, $20 off video games, $250 off patio furniture, and more, no Sam's Club coupons needed.

One thing we've noticed: Sam's Club marks down items pretty frequently to make room for seasonal merchandise and new Sam's Club items, so it's not just unwanted items that end up on clearance. There are genuinely great finds if you know where and when to look.

Shopping Sam's Club clearance — whether you're browsing online or hunting in-store — is just one way to squeeze even more value out of your Sam's Club membership cost each year.

When does Sam's Club do markdowns in stores?

Predicting the exact day that Sam's Club does markdowns in stores is nearly impossible, as the markdown and restocking schedule is largely left up to the store manager. But you can use this to your advantage by shopping early the day after a markdown happens.

For example, KCL deal hunter Casey found out that her Sam's Club store does markdowns on Tuesday nights (you can totally ask a manager this), so she always shops on Wednesday mornings to find new in-store clearance deals.

KCL TIP: If you're shopping for in-store clearance at your local Sam's Club warehouse, remember to use Scan & Go in the Sam's Club app (download for iOS/Android) to check for hidden clearance deals.

What does ".98" mean at Sam's Club?

Many Sam's Club shoppers think that a price tag ending in .98 will always mean something is a clearance deal, but that's not necessarily the case.

On a recent shopping trip at Sam's Club, I found a mirror marked for $59.98 — not on sale, just at regular price. So while clearance deals will usually have price tags ending in .98, .81, .91, or .00, those digits can sometimes be found on regular-priced items too.

We can teach you more of our favorite Sam's Club hacks, like how to decipher their price tags.
