Coat the underside of costume jewelry to prevent tarnish. When certain metals, commonly used in costume jewelry, come in contact with skin, they can cause tarnish. Use a clear coat of nail polish to create a barrier between the metal and your skin.
Paint the bottom of metal cans to prevent rust circles on surfaces. Simply turn the rusty items upside down, wipe off any dust and excess rust, and then paint the rims with nail polish. Once dry, you can confidently place them back on shelves without worrying about rust stains.
You can even smooth over splinters on furniture by applying a thin coat of nail polish. Clean the affected area, then paint over the splinter or rough spot with polish for a smoother surface.
