After Dec. 25, retailers start dropping after-Christmas clearance sales as a last attempt to get everything off the shelves that shoppers didn't buy during Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the rest of the holiday shopping season. Stores need to make room for Valentine’s Day merch, after all.
And the clearance discounts are legit. In fact, we've found that the average discount during after-Christmas sales has been higher than during Black Friday and Prime Day in recent years. Just know that the most impressive markdowns will all be on seasonal stuff. During the 2024 - 25 season, we saw clearance sales start going live extra early (the middle of December), so don't expect a huge selection too late into January.
Here's how you can expect holiday clearance sales to unfold during the 2025 - 26 season. And read on for more detailed breakdowns by store (before the sales actually start, keep in mind these are predictions based on previous years).

1. Walmart Christmas Clearance Schedule
Last year, stores started marking down holiday clearance items a few days before Christmas and then hit 50% off Dec. 26. We expect the same in 2025. Check out our favorite Walmart Christmas clearance finds. Expect 90% off to hit around the second week of January (Jan. 6 in 2024), but selection varies by store.
With Walmart’s already low prices, jump on any must-have deals when they’re at the 50% off mark because these deals go fast . If you wait until items are 75% off, there’s not going to be very much left. By mid-January, most items are gone.

2. Target Christmas Clearance Schedule
Like clockwork every year, Target offers 50% off holiday clearance on Dec. 26. In 2024, we saw 90% off at some stores on Dec. 30. However, some Targets have begun selling clearance items off to salvage, so you might not find 90% off at your nearest store.
Target threw us a curveball in 2024 when it came to early Christmas clearance deals. We saw a few stores drop select items (namely, Wondershop Christmas serving plates and tumblers) to 70% off Dec. 18, earlier than we expected. This varied widely by store, however.

3. Hobby Lobby Christmas Clearance Schedule
Hobby Lobby's 90% off holiday clearance sale is famous, and it drops right after the new year. Last year, it dropped Jan. 2, and it ran until around Jan. 6 (depending on the store).
Hobby Lobby marks down Christmas decor from September to January each year. The Hobby Lobby Christmas clearance discounts actually started at 50% off, back on Sept. 1.

4. Walgreens Christmas Clearance Schedule
Last year, Walgreens clearance hit 80% off on Jan. 6, in stores and on select items in their clearance section online.
In past years, Walgreens has offered up to 90% off in late-January, but if yours does, expect selection to be small. In 2025 we didn't find a single store that hit 90% off clearance. But clearance dates and discount amounts vary, so always check your local store.

8. Kohl’s After-Christmas Sale Schedule
Many seasonal decor items are usually available as part of the Kohl's End-of-Season Event, which you can shop online and in stores right after Christmas. Then, expect anything that's left to get discounted to 70% off in mid-January,
Don't forget about your Kohl's Cash when you shop right after the holidays. Last year, Kohl's Cash you earned Dec. 15 - 24 was redeemable until Jan. 1.
Here’s some advice. If you see an item you want, it’s not worth waiting until mid-January for the bigger discount. So few items make it past that 70% off point that you’re sure to miss out on some great deals by waiting.

The Children’s Place Clearance
The Children’s Place typically runs a clearance event in February. Shop it when you see 75% off the entire site. Since inventories grow scarcer the longer you wait, plan to hop on these deals right when the sale goes live.
