One of our favorite ways to save money at stores is rebate app Ibotta, and they’ve been working hard over the last few months to make it easier than ever to get rebates on Target purchases.

Ibotta has tinkered with linking to your store accounts before, but they’ve made some serious improvements recently.

They’ve quietly unveiled new functionality that automatically gives you credit for online and in-person Target purchases — no more receipt uploads!

THIS. IS. BIG. So here’s what you do:

Visit the Target store page on Ibotta to link your account (but be patient).

Log in to your Ibotta account via the app or the website. In the app, you should find Target under recommended retailers. Click into Target, and near the top of the screen you’ll see the option to link your account.

Visit Target’s retailer page on the Ibotta website, where you’ll be able to click “Link your Target account” in the upper right corner.

Enter your Target.com email address and password. Linking should only take a few minutes, but results may vary. (For one of our staff it took more than a day to link.)

FREE MONEY: If you’re new to Ibotta, sign up with The Krazy Coupon Lady and get $20 in Ibotta credits during your first month of using the app. You get $10 for your first in-store offer redemption (not “Any Item” or “Any Brand” listings), $5 for a mobile shopping offer redemption, and $5 for another mobile shopping or in-store redemption.

Add Target Ibotta offers BEFORE you shop, for best results.

This is super important. While it’s AMAZING that you no longer have to scan receipts to get Ibotta rebates, you do still have to add the offers to your Ibotta account — before you shop.

You can do this by browsing the current Target offers and hitting that little plus sign next to each one.

Then, do your shopping keeping those offers in mind.

When you’re shopping in person, make sure you pay with your Target wallet.

The Ibotta account linking works for both Target.com and in Target stores. For Target.com, just make sure you’re logged in to the same Target account you’ve connected to your Ibotta account to get the automatic rebates.

When you shop in person, you have to check out using the Wallet portion of the Target app. Make sure you add a payment type to your Wallet (we recommend the RedCard for 5% off every purchase).

Tap “show my barcode,” scan at checkout, and your purchases will be picked up by Ibotta.

Ibotta will give you credit for your Target purchases in about a day.

Experiences may vary, but for the most part, we’re seeing Target online orders typically posting within 24 hours, and in-store purchases posting within several hours.

There’s literally nothing else you need to do.

RELATED: How Does Ibotta Work?

If you forgot to add an Ibotta offer before you shopped, unlink your account and upload receipts.

Since you have at least a couple of hours before your Ibotta purchases post to your account, if you act quickly enough, you might be able to add the offers you missed right after your purchase.

Ibotta says that probably won’t work, though.

Instead, you’ll most likely need to add the missed offers and disconnect Target from your Ibotta account — which you can do on the Account settings page. Then, upload your Target receipt like you used to. Just make sure you’re not getting credited more than once.
