Target and the cash-back rebate app Ibotta have made the process of getting rebates way easier than the old days of uploading a picture of your receipt — but you may still want to use the old method in some cases. Let’s take a look at how to use Ibotta at Target so you can take advantage of all the possible savings.
Note: As of August 2022, your Ibotta app may no longer give you the option to use Ibotta rebates for online purchases you make on Target.com. You may also have trouble linking your Target.com account to Ibotta if it’s your first time doing it. Their team is aware of the glitch, but in case it lasts, just know that the steps below may not work for you. If that happens, just submit a paper receipt instead (see Tip #6).
1. Link your Target and Ibotta accounts.
The first way to get Ibotta rebates at Target is by linking your Target account with your Ibotta account. Here’s how:
- Log in to your Ibotta account on the app or the website.
- Visit Target’s retailer page on the Ibotta website or search for Target in the app.
- Tap “Link account.”
- Enter your Target.com email address and password.
Linking only took me a minute, but I’ve heard cases where it takes up to a day.

2. Add Target Ibotta offers before you shop.
Even if you opt to link your Target account to get Ibotta rebates, you do still have to manually add the offers to your Ibotta account before you shop.
Just click the plus sign next to the rebate offer you want to take advantage of, shop for those items, and check out, which leads to the next thing you have to do.
3. Link your bank cards to Target Wallet.
To get those Ibotta rebates for in-store shopping at Target, you also have to pay with your wallet barcode from the Target app. Before you shop at your local Target, open up the Target app and tap “Wallet.” There, you can add payment methods like gift cards and credit cards to speed up the payment process and get those Ibotta rebates.
When you’re checking out in store, just tap “Show My Barcode,” scan it at the register, and your purchases will be picked up by Ibotta.
4. Add RedCard to your Target Wallet for an extra 5% off.
Why not add an extra discount on top of these rebates? If you pay with Target RedCard, you’ll get an additional 5% off your Target haul, which can be stacked with other deals and Ibotta rebates.
Add your RedCard to your Target Wallet — all you have to do is verify the PIN number.
5. Wait a couple extra days for credit on your Ibotta purchases.
Target is notorious for taking a couple extra days to credit your Ibotta rebates. In fact, KCL readers have even reported that sometimes they have up to 50% of their rebates missing.
If this happens to you, you can reach out to Ibotta customer service to have them fix the issue. Or you could opt to stop using the linked account feature using the next strategy.
6. If all else fails, unlink your account and upload your paper receipt.
If reaching out to Ibotta customer service when your Target rebates aren’t applied sounds like a PITA, you can always go old-school and unlink your account. Then you’ll be able to upload your receipt and claim the Ibotta rebates that way.
It usually takes up to 48 hours for the rebates to process using this method.
Here’s how to quickly unlink Target from Ibotta:
- Go to your Profile drop-down in Ibotta from the home page, then tap “Profile.”
- Tap “Settings.”
- Go to “Linked accounts.”
- Choose “Unlink” next to your Target account email address.
