The beloved Thanksgiving movie, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, won’t air on traditional TV this year, but don’t worry — you’ll still be able to watch it for free. It’ll just require a bit more effort than clicking a button on your remote this year.
First airing on CBS in 1973, this animated film follows Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Woodstock as they try to plan a Thanksgiving feast for Peppermint Patty, who invited herself over for dinner. Apple has acquired the rights to Peanuts characters, including your other favorite holiday films featuring Charlie Brown and the gang like It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas. You’ll now find these streaming on Apple’s own Apple TV+, which is $6.99 per month.
This isn’t the first year Apple’s had the right to Peanuts. In fact, they’ve had them since 2018. But in 2020 and 2021, PBS had the rights to air this Turkey Day special, but this is the first year that no broadcast channels own the rights to air. Now, you might be thinking, “Good grief!” and we completely understand, but don’t worry. Apple TV+ has stated in a press release that anyone, even nonsubscribers, will be able to enjoy the Peanuts classic absolutely free.
