It’s been around for more than 50 years, but the return of the Shamrock Shake seems to always be met with lots of fanfare. The Shamrock Shake made its annual return to McDonald’s earlier than ever on February 5, 2024, and we’ve got all the information on this treat and its McFlurry counterpart.

This is one of the many McDonald’s specials that only come once a year, and while there aren’t many deals you can get to reduce the price of the shake, we’ll give you all the tips we know so you can adequately celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day favorite.

Plus, we’ve even got McDonald’s secret menu items you can only get when the Shamrock Shake is available. And, as always, we’ll keep you updated on any McDonald’s deals that come up.

Until then, here’s everything you should know about McDonald’s Shamrock Shake and its upcoming return.

McDonald’s Shamrock Shake returned to the McDonald's menu on Feb. 5, 2024.

The Shamrock Shake is available every year starting in February and usually sticks around until a week after St. Patrick’s Day. So what is a Shamrock Shake? The McDonald’s Shamrock Shake is a vanilla shake mixed with minty, green Shamrock syrup to create a sweet, minty treat that McDonald's fans love.

This treat made its 2024 debut weeks earlier than ever before on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024. We expect it to be on McDonald's menu through St. Patrick's Day.

Most McDonald’s locations have a limited supply of Shamrock Shake syrup, so they don’t get any more of the product after St. Patrick’s Day, so you'll see it disappear in early March.

Here’s when the Shamrock Shake was available in the past:

  • Feb. 20, 2023

  • Feb. 21, 2022

  • Feb. 15, 2021

  • Feb. 19, 2020

  • Feb. 15, 2019

  • Feb. 21, 2018

McDonald’s Shamrock Shake costs around $4 - $5 this year.

How much is a McDonald's Shamrock Shake? You'll pay around $4.19 for a small, $4.69 for a medium, and $5.19 for a large. This is $1 more than we saw in 2023 when prices ranged from $3 - $4.

Prices vary from region to region, so you may want to contact your local McDonald’s or check the McDonald’s app for more information on their specific Shamrock Shake prices.

Will the Shamrock McFlurry be returning to McDonald's as well?

You bet! The Oreo Shamrock McFlurry also hit menus on Feb. 5, 2024.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Shamrock Shake, McDonald’s released the Shamrock McFlurry in 2020. This frozen treat combines the regular Oreo McFlurry flavor with the Shamrock Shake syrup to create an Oreo-mint McFlurry. This flavor has returned every year since 2020, and we're happy to see it on the menu again this year.

The Shamrock McFlurry costs around $4.69 depending on your location, and it will likely be available through early March, just like the Shamrock Shake. We didn't see as hefty of a price increase on the McFlurry as we did on the shakes this year.

Use the Shamrock syrup to create various secret menu items.

  2. Add 9 drops of green food coloring and blend to combine.

  3. Decorate the top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and decorator sugar to your liking.
