Through Pedigree's most recent adoption event, Love at First Sight event (June 7 - 9), Pedigree covered adoption fees (up to $200) for anyone who adopted a shelter dog the weekend event!

In their mission to find every dog a loving home, Pedigree holds a few adoption drives each year. While we wait for details on the next one, here's a look at what you can expect as far as fees and how to get reimbursed.

I adopted my two rescue dogs in 2011 and 2015 and it's the best thing I've ever done. They're senior ladies now, enjoying their retirement snoozing on the couch. Pet adoption fees in 2024 can run anywhere from $50 - $350 (or more), and having $200 of the up-front cost covered leaves wiggle room to buy other pet essentials like beds, dog food, toys, and — my dogs' personal faves — Greenies and Pup-Peroni.

Here are the simple steps to getting $200 back to spend on your new bestie from Pedigree. And text HACKS to 57299 for more money-saving tips and events.

Pedigree Shelter Sunday happens Black Friday weekend and offers up $200 in pet adoption fee reimbursement.

In their mission to find every dog a loving home, Pedigree covered dog adoption costs for dogs that were adopted from a shelter on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. In a day they've deemed Shelter Sunday, they wanted to help re-home the 6 million dogs who find themselves in shelters each year.

KCL predicts the next Shelter Sunday will be on Dec. 1, 2024.

Pedigree-Shelter-Sunday

When Pedigree announced Shelter Sunday in 2023, they launched it on Black Friday weekend. A time when many were already spending money, they invited you to spend at the shelter instead of the store. And then they reimbursed you for it!

Last year, Shelter Sunday fell on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2023. If we see it again this year, we expect it to be the Sunday after Thanksgiving, December 1, 2024.

Pedigree offers several adoption drives throughout the year.

The Pedigree Foundation hold various adoption drives throughout the year. Here are a few of their recent adoption drives when they have covered adoption fees:

  • Nov 26, 2023: On Nationwide Shelter Sunday — THE Shelter Sunday event — Pedigree reimbursed adoption fees for those who adopted a dog on Nov. 26.

  • July 2023 (entire month): Pedigree covered adoption fees for active military and veterans in the Washington D.C. area.

  • June 2023: During the Stanley Cup Finals Pedigree covered the adoption fees for all pups named Stanley in the Ft. Lauderdale and Las Vegas areas.

The maximum Pedigree covers/reimburses is $200.

Submit your adoption receipt online for reimbursement.

After you adopt your pup during one of Pedigree's adoption drives, you will have a few weeks to submit a receipt (online) showing the adoption fees you paid. Anything over their $200 max is on you.

The average annual cost of caring for a dog can run anywhere from $1,000 - $5,225 when you factor in all expenses.

We would never try to talk anyone out of giving a dog a loving home, however there are expenses to consider in the long term. On average in 2024, it can cost anywhere from $1,000 - $5,225 a year to care for one of these animals. And humans aren't the only ones affected by inflation. Surveyed pet parents have noticed a near 52% increase in pet necessities in the past year alone. That's looking at food, vet visits, and "extras" (like toys, beds, etc.). Something to keep in mind beyond adoption fees.
