Teachers, you can absolutely save money on your phone bill. And the T-Mobile teacher discount is one way to do it. The plans are pretty straightforward, the biggie being whether or not your school qualifies for the discount. Because if it doesn’t, well, obviously no dice.

We’ll get into the ins and outs of the T-Mobile teacher discount, plus share how it stacks up against the AT&T and Verizon teacher discounts. Those are definitely worth exploring, too.

The T-Mobile teacher discount starts at $35 per month.

You have a couple options with the T-Mobile teacher discount, which we’ll outline, but both of them include a base monthly payment and a device. They’re calling this “device included,” but it basically means you get a certain dollar amount to put toward a new phone. You’ll also notice that the last four items are identical for both plans.

Plan 1

  • $35 per month
  • Up to $180 toward a smartphone
  • Unlimited talk, text, and data
  • 5G access
  • Unlimited hotspot data
  • Optional education-grade content filtering

Plan 2

  • $47 per month
  • Up to $400 toward a smartphone
  • Unlimited talk, text, and data
  • 5G access
  • Unlimited hotspot data
  • Optional education-grade content filtering

School staff and employees can also access the T-Mobile teacher discount.

The T-Mobile teacher discount isn’t just for educators. Anyone working at a participating school district, college, or university is eligible. If you want to know whether or not you qualify, check your eligibility here.

… But retired teachers and spouses can’t.

Because the discount is tied to the participating school districts and universities, it means once you’re not longer employed there, you don’t qualify anymore. Spouses and dependents don’t qualify either, although you can always put the phone bill in the name of the partner who is a teacher in order to get the discount.

Do I have to add a line in order to qualify for the T-Mobile teacher discount?

No. You don’t need to add a line or do anything additional if you work at a participating school.

If you’re not a T-Mobile customer yet, try out three months for free.

Another perk, if you’re considering switching over from another carrier, is that T-Mobile will let you try out their network for free for three months. This way, you can see if it’s something you want to do or not.

The carrier offering the best teacher discount is …

The AT&T teacher discount and the Verizon teacher discount are both slightly easier to get. Both require that you verify your educator status. AT&T requires you to submit documents as proof, with some examples being your teacher ID or your pay stubs. Verizon uses ID Me, where you just sign in and follow the prompts.

But compared to needing your entire school system to sign up ahead of time, quick verification seems like a piece of cake.

The plans between the carriers cost about the same after the teacher discount. But Verizon’s plan offers freebies like ESPN+, which is a nice perk for sports fans.
