The best part is, employees can use the discount year-round, and there’s no limit to the number of purchases you can make. But there is a pretty long list of items the discount can’t be applied to, so be sure to do your research before making a purchase.

What Is the Walmart Employee Discount?
The Walmart employee discount is pretty straightforward. Employees can get 10% off in-store and online purchases of select items. You do need to be a Walmart employee for 90 days before you can use the discount. After 90 days, you’ll receive a Walmart Associate Discount Card. You can use this card to receive the discount on all in-store and online purchases.
If you’re shopping in the store, just show your discount card at checkout. If you’re shopping online, it’s easy to link the card to your account. Log in to the Walmart app or your Walmart account online and add your discount card details to your profile. Then, you’ll automatically see the discounts offered for each purchase online or through the app.
Can Family Members Use the Walmart Employee Discount?
All Walmart employees who have worked at the retailer 90 days or more and their spouses can use the discount. No other family members are eligible to share the benefits.

Do Part-Time Walmart Employees Get the Same Discount?
The 10% discount applies to all Walmart employees, regardless of how many hours you work per week. Some of the additional employee perks (more on that later) only apply to full-time employees. When you’re hired, you should get an employee contract that outlines which additional benefits (if any) apply to you.
Is There a Walmart Discount for Retired Employees?
Walmart rewards long-term employees by offering the employee discount to retired team members. If you’ve been an associate for 20 years or more, you can keep your Associate Discount Card when you retire regardless of your age.
Team members who are age 55 or older and have worked for at least 15 consecutive years can also keep their Associate Discount Card after ending employment.
What’s Excluded from the Walmart Employee Discount?
Walmart’s employee discount of 10% off every order year-round is pretty generous—but there are quite a few things you can’t use the discount on.
Walmart says, “Our associate discount card offers a 10% discount on fresh fruits, vegetables and regularly priced general merchandise at Walmart stores.” That’s a pretty vague description, but if you read the fine print, you’ll find a lengthy list of items excluded from the employee discount.
One major thing to know is that the discount doesn’t apply to anything sold by a third party. Walmart.com allows third party sellers to sell items on their online marketplace, so be warned that anything online that’s not marked ‘sold by Walmart’ is not eligible for the discount. (You don’t have to worry about this if you’re shopping in the store.)

- Most food items (except for fresh produce)
- Photo orders

What Are Walmart’s Holiday Employee Discounts?
Because Black Friday is such a busy time at the store, every employee who works during the three-day period after Thanksgiving will receive an additional 15% discount on top of the 10% discount. In the past, Walmart has offered a free meal to employees who work on Thanksgiving Day, but the chain was closed on Thanksgiving this year.
There’s no official policy on it, but Walmart employees have reported that the employee discount is opened to more items during the holiday season.
More Perks and Benefits for Walmart Employees
In addition to the 10% employee discount, there are ways for Walmart employees to save even more money just by being a team member. Employees can get discounts on non-Walmart brand things, too, like travel, entertainment, and cell phone plans.
Employees can also open a 401K on their first day of work, and Walmart will match up to 6% after they’ve worked at the chain for one year. Associates can also purchase stock with a full match from the company.
Walmart employees thinking about starting a family should know that the brand offers 10 weeks of full-pay maternity leave, and employees are eligible for a $5000 payment to put toward the cost of adopting a child.
