Thanks to JCPenney clearance, you don't have to wait for a sale to save up to 80% at the retailer. Yep — 80%. Don't get me wrong, I still love the big events like JCPenney Black Friday and Power Penney Days, but sometimes I just want the thrill of a massive markdown on a random Tuesday, ya know? And thanks to JCPenney coupons and savings hacks, I can see that mid-week thrill through.
But JCPenney clearance, now that's really a fun scavenger hunt year-round. With new markdowns added the first and third Fridays of the month across all of the store's categories from fashion to home, I'm always both surprised and delighted at what I find.
Let's jump into the best of the best current JCPenney clearance deals right now, then slide into some general questions you may have about their clearance merch. Of course, if you want more savings tips you should text HACKS to 57299 for money-saving goodness sent straight to your phone.

Is JCPenney clearance offered daily?
Yes! Both in-store and online you can find clearance at the retailer every day. Just note that the best deals tend to sell out pretty quickly (not surprising), and what you see on clearance in a brick-and-mortar location may not be the same as what you see online. It all depends on inventory. But once a clearance item is gone, it's gone.
KCL TIP: JCP adds new clearance markdowns on the first and third Fridays of each month. Check your store or online then to get the best deals.
Are clearance prices the same online as they are in-store?
Generally speaking, yes, JCPenney prices are the same in-store as they are online. However, when it comes to clearance you have to remember that an item you see in-store may not be available online, and vice versa. It's all subject to product availability and inventory at a location or shipping warehouse.
Can I return JCPenney clearance items?
Shockingly, yes! While many stores (looking at you, Macy's) make the majority of their clearance final sale, JCPenney does allow the return of clearance items as long as they aren't any of the following:
Gift Cards
Monogrammed Items
Personalized Items
Altered Items
Body Jewelry
Face Masks
Ear Piercing Kits
Perishable Foods
Services (like beauty, photo, etc.)
Mind you, the return has to be made within 60 days of the original purchase date. Also note that if you don't have your receipt, your refund will be in the form of a JCPenney Merchandise Return Voucher. The amount of the voucher will be at the item’s lowest selling price within the last 45 days. To get this return voucher you will have to show a valid ID. Learn more about JCP's return policy.
If you make a JCPenney clearance return (or any return for that matter), do so in store to avoid an $8 return fee.
Yep, that return fee could cost more than your actual JCPenney clearance purchase. UPS charges a flat rate of $8 to return things to JCP which, while considered a "discounted" rate, is still outrageous. March your butt into a JCPenney location to return that item for free instead.
Can I use coupons on clearance items at JCPenney?
Sadly the answer to this question is no, you cannot use coupons on JCPenney clearance items. There's actually quite a long list of coupon exclusions at JCPenney which include other categories like Best Value and Power Penney Deals, to name just two.
Does JCPenney price match clearance?
If you're talking about a competitor's clearance prices (like Macy's), no JCPenney will not price match. Additionally, if you find JCPenney clearance in-store but want to buy it online where it's still regular price, they won't price match that either. This applies the opposite way as well — finding something on clearance online but wanting to purchase at that clearance price in-store). So, ultimately the answer is, no, JCPenney won't price match clearance.
Can I get free shipping at JCPenney?
You'll have to spend $75 in order to get free shipping at JCPenney, however, in-store pickup is free. I highly recommend you choose the in-store pickup option if you aren't going to hit that $75 free shipping threshold. Nothing takes the wind out of my sails on a clearance purchase like having to pay for shipping.
