Panera rolled out a brand-new MyPanera Rewards program on Aug. 19, 2026, and it's a full teardown of how the old one worked. No more waiting around for Panera to decide you've earned something. You now collect points, and you choose what they turn into, which puts it more in line with the best restaurant rewards programs we track.
Current MyPanera members can also earn 500 points with any purchase now through Sept. 1. New members will receive a 500-point sign up bonus. Either way, that's a free drink or bakery item, so it belongs on your list of freebies you can grab this month.
Here's everything you can expect from the new MyPanera Rewards, good and bad.
The big change: points instead of surprises
The old MyPanera Rewards ran on a "surprise and delight" model. You'd make some purchases, and eventually a reward would show up in your account. Maybe it was a free bagel. Maybe it was something you'd never order. You had no say.
Now every dollar you spend earns points:
You earn 10 points for every $1 spent.
And when you've got enough, you pick your reward off a menu.
If you were already a member, you were moved over automatically. Your existing rewards carried over too, so nothing was lost in the switch.
What your points actually buy
Rewards start at 250 points and top out at 2,000. Here's the full ladder, plus what you'd have to spend to get there from scratch:
-
250 points ($25 spent) — Bagel, extra side, or mini bakery treat
-
500 points ($50 spent) — Energy Refresher, Fresca, bakery treat, self-serve beverage, or fruit cup
-
1,000 points ($100 spent) — Cup of soup, breakfast entrée, oatmeal, yogurt parfait, or barista beverage
-
1,500 points ($150 spent) — Half sandwich, half salad, half market bowl, cup of mac and cheese, or kids meal
-
2,000 points ($200 spent) — Whole sandwich, whole salad, whole market bowl, bowl of soup, or bowl of mac and cheese
Two rules to know before you start stockpiling:
-
One reward per transaction. You can't cash in a drink and an entrée on the same order.
-
Your balance caps at 50,000 points. Not a problem for most of us, but worth knowing.
Is it a good deal?
Roughly, yes. It falls somewhere in the neighborhood of 7% to 9% back on what you spend, depending on which reward you pick, with the cheaper items actually returning slightly more value per point than the entrées.
Menu prices vary by region, so run it against your own local Panera if you want an exact number. But the takeaway is the same as any rewards program: Redeem for something you were going to order anyway.
Points do expire (but it's hard to lose them)
Your points expire after 180 days of inactivity. That sounds scarier than it is. Any of the following resets the clock:
-
Making an eligible purchase on your account
-
Redeeming points
-
Redeeming a Sip Club beverage
So as long as you swing by roughly twice a year, you're fine.
What doesn't earn points
Points are calculated after discounts and rewards are applied, and these don't count toward your total at all:
-
Taxes, fees, and tips
-
Catering orders
-
Gift cards
-
Panera at Home grocery products
-
Sip Club subscription fees
Worth remembering if you're trying to hit a points threshold: a big catering order won't get you there.
New: MyPanera+ status
Spend $300 in a calendar year and you unlock MyPanera+ status. The perks:
-
A free You Pick Two combo as your birthday reward, instead of a bakery treat
-
12 points per dollar on qualifying Panera delivery orders
Once you earn it, you keep it for the rest of that year plus all of the following year. Hit it on Nov. 1, 2026, and you're covered through Dec. 31, 2027.
Should you chase it? Probably not on purpose. That birthday upgrade is worth roughly $15 on $300 of spending, or about 5% back. That's a fine bonus if you were already spending the money, but it's not a reason to spend more. And note that the 12x rate applies to qualifying delivery orders only, not everything you buy. Sigh .
The bad news: Sip Club is no longer unlimited
If you subscribe to Sip Club, this is the part that affects you.
Sip Club now caps you at 30 drink redemptions per month, on top of the existing rule limiting you to one drink every two hours.
The fine print:
-
Monthly subscribers get up to 30 redemptions per billing cycle
-
Annual subscribers get up to 30 redemptions per rolling 30-day period, counted from your subscription start date
For most people, 30 drinks a month is plenty. But if you're a twice-a-day regular, or if Panera is your go-to remote working space, you're going to feel this one?
Grab your free 500 points before Sept. 1
Here's the part worth acting on today.
If you're already a MyPanera member: Make any qualifying food or beverage purchase between now and Sept. 1, 2026, and you'll get 500 bonus points dropped into your account within 24 hours.
That's enough for a free Energy Refresher, Fresca, bakery treat, self-serve beverage, or fruit cup with no additional spending required.
A few conditions:
-
Purchase required, and it has to be at a participating U.S. cafe
-
Limit one per member
-
The purchase amount is counted after any rewards, discounts, or Sip Club redemptions, and excludes taxes and fees
-
Points expire per standard MyPanera terms
If you're not a member yet: You can still sign up and get a 500-point welcome offer, but you can't stack it with the bonus above. If you join during this promo window (or enroll in Sip Club when you first join), you get the welcome offer instead. It's one or the other.
Either way, 500 points is a free drink or treat for signing up. Not bad.
Bottom line
The new MyPanera is a genuine upgrade for most people. You can see what you're earning, you know exactly what it takes to get a free lunch, and you get to pick the thing you actually want. That's a real improvement over hoping a reward you like shows up.
The Sip Club cap is the one downgrade, particularly for the heaviest users, but it won't touch the majority of subscribers.
If you've got a MyPanera account collecting dust, this is the week to use it. Grab those 500 points before Sept. 1.
