See new Publix BOGO deals every Wednesday or Thursday, depending on where you live, but find deals early in the app.

Publix buy one get one (BOGO) offers are tied to their weekly sale ad. So if your Publix switches to a new sale ad every Thursday (like my Florida store does), that’s the day you’ll see new BOGO deals arrive on the shelves. But if you live in an area where the weekly ad changes on Wednesdays, your BOGO deals will start a day earlier.

If you download the Publix app (iOS / Android), you can get a sneak peek of upcoming Publix BOGO offers a full day before the new sale ad goes live.

KCL TIP: Most Publix BOGO deals are only valid for a week, but some deals may stick around for multiple weeks. If you're shopping in-store, you'll usually find these extended BOGO deals at the end of an aisle, with signs indicating they're part of a "More Savings to Love" promotion.

How to Save Even More With Publix BOGO Deals

publix-bogo-buy-one-get-one-free-sale-phone-kcl-1

You can use coupons on Publix BOGO deals to boost your savings.

When you pair manufacturer coupons or Publix store coupons with BOGO offers, you'll boost your savings even higher than the standard 50% — and it's totally allowed. You'll just need a free Club Publix account to clip their store coupons. And in most Publix stores (except Florida), you're allowed to use two coupons, one on each item purchased, since they'll both ring up at 50% off.

KCL TIP: Not all stores calculate BOGO deals in the same way. In some stores, each item in a BOGO deal will ring up at 50% off, so you can use two coupons. In other stores, one item will ring up at full price and the second item will be free, so you can only use one coupon. Check the store's coupon policy to see how they calculate BOGO deals.

The only stipulation is that you can't use a manufacturer coupon AND a digital store coupon on the same item at Publix. Here's the official rule, according to the Publix Coupon Policy:

"Savings are limited to one manufacturer coupon per item purchased. Should a paper coupon be accepted for an item, the digital coupon will not be accepted and will remain in your Club Publix account for future use."

The most valuable Publix BOGO deals are typically on beer, wine, soda, detergent, and name-brand coffee.

If your goal is to save the most money possible, I recommend focusing on the higher-ticket items that will rack up your total savings much faster.

For example, Publix frequently has BOGO deals on 12-packs of specialty beer (a savings of $20 or more), bottles of wine (save $18 or more), laundry detergent (save $16 or more), name-brand coffee like Starbucks and Gevalia (save $14 or more), frozen entrees (save $11 or more), and soda (save $10 or more).

KCL TIP: A few times a year — normally around January, July, and November — look for a BOGO deal on roses by the dozen to save $12.99 per bouquet.

Know the Publix BOGO rules for your state (because you don't always have to buy two items to save).

In the majority of states where they operate, Publix lets you buy just one BOGO item at half price instead of buying two to get the deal. This comes in handy if you just don't have the storage space for multiple items like detergent bottles.

In these "half-BOGO" states, each item will ring up for half-price, so you don't have to buy the second item if you don't want to. But in "true BOGO" states (like Florida), the first BOGO item rings up at full price and the second item will ring up for $0.00, meaning you have to buy the two items to get the discount.

Florida

Must purchase two items to get the discount

All Other States (Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia)

May purchase one item and get it for half price

Keep in mind that alcohol laws can vary by state, so some Publix locations may not offer BOGO deals on wine or beer.

Ask for a rain check if a BOGO deal is out of stock.

Publix is one of the many grocery stores that offers rain checks, and the Publix rain check policy definitely applies to BOGO deals. Just head to the customer service desk and ask for a rain check if you find that a BOGO you want is out of stock. You'll be able to claim the sale price for 30 days, and you can use the rain check to buy up to eight single items (or four total BOGO deals).

Keep in mind that you may not be able to get a rain check for certain items like alcohol or items marked as "limited availability."

Get Publix BOGOs even if you order for curbside pickup or delivery, but you'll pay up to 20% more in fees.

Even though Publix curbside pickup and delivery is handled behind the scenes by Instacart, you can still take advantage of weekly BOGO deals when placing your order. Just look for the yellow "Buy 1, get 1 free" banners in the Publix Delivery app (iOS / Android), or select the "BOGOs" menu at the bottom.

The BOGO deals will be the same as those listed in the Publix weekly ad, but know that you'll pay anywhere from 10% - 20% more per item to cover Instacart's processing fees.
