We were thrilled that several readers were able to take advantage of the deal we posted recently about free bed and breakfast nights for veterans and active military personnel on the night before Veterans Day, November 11. (That deal is still valid if any other qualifying readers would like to plan a getaway.) That made us wonder if there might be interest in other, year-round, deals for military families. In that vein, here is the first of several articles about travel deals for military families.
Hotel Discounts for Military Families
Hotels all over the United States offer discounts and special rates to show their appreciation for the sacrifices our nation’s military members and their families make. Many of these discounts are not advertised, so you have to ask for them. Also, depending on what promotions are currently running at a particular hotel, the military rates may not be the lowest rate. (Smart, KCL travelers always ask at the front desk when they check in if the rate they have booked is still the lowest rate.) If you book a military discount, be prepared to show your military ID at check in.
Below are just a few of the discounts offered to military personnel:
- Best Western Hotels – Offers special discounts (these vary by hotel and date) for active military traveling on business or for leisure. View this page for details.
- Choice Hotels – This hotel company, whose chains include Quality Inns, Comfort Inns, Comfort Suites and Clarion Hotels, extends special rates to active and retired military members and their dependents for business or leisure travel at their more than 2700 locations. Dependents don’t have to travel with the military member to qualify. View this page for details.
- Marriott Hotels – Marriott Hotels, which also includes Fairfield Inns, Courtyard by Marriott and Spring Hill Suites, offers low per diem rates for active military members and those staying with them. Most properties offer this discount for business or leisure travel. View this page for more information.
- Intercontinental Hotel Group – This hotel company, which includes Holiday Inns, Intercontinental Hotels and Crowne Plaza Hotels, offers military discounts to active military personnel (and those staying in the room with them) for business and leisure travel. To qualify, you need to print an ID card from the Intercontinental Hotel Group Web site. View this page for more information.
