Retailers' and restaurants' buckets, storage bins, and tote bags are having a moment. The reason they're so viral? They're collectible and in limited supply.

Michaels just dropped a new storage bucket in two sizes, and it's flying off store shelves. The good news is, you can order it online and get 25% off through Nov. 20.

What KCL Editors Think You Should Know

  • New Michaels Bucket Sizes: The new Michaels Bucket comes in two sizes:

  • They're Going Fast: The bucket is already getting hard to find on store shelves (and is no longer available for in-store pickup in many of the areas we spot-checked).

  • Order Online With Coupon Code: If you order online, use an online-only offer for 25% off with code CRE8WITH25 at checkout. That brings your total down to $4.49 for the 5-gallon size and $2.24 for the 1-gallon size. The coupon expires Nov. 20.

  • Shipping: Just note that you'll need to spend at least $49 to qualify for free shipping. If the bucket is available for in-store pickup at your location, that's your best bet, unless you already have other items to add to your cart. You still get to use the online-only code on store-pickup orders, and you don't have to worry about hitting the $49 minimum.

The new Michaels Bucket is a little pricier than other retailers' storage buckets, but it's also more of a collectible.

Here's how the Michaels bucket compares to some of the other retailers' storage buckets (and other viral storage options):

Michaels

  • 5-Gallon: $5.99 ($4.49 with 25% off coupon)

  • 1-Gallon: $2.99 ($2.24 with 25% off coupon)

Lowe's

  • 5-Gallon: $4.98

  • 2-Gallon: $3.38

  • 0.4-Quart Mini : $1.48

Home Depot

Menards

  • 5-Gallon: $3.54

Trader Joe's

If you're just after a collectible Michaels bucket and want to save money, go with the 1-gallon bucket size, which is under $3 (Lowe's and Home Depot don't have an equivalent size).

For many, the point of these items isn't price, but collectibility. After all, Trader Joe's mini totes always sell out, and Lowe's mini buckets usually disappear quickly when they're offered as a freebie to rewards members, despite the fact that neither holds very much. The Michaels buckets, though, are actually pretty practical. The 1-gallon size is ideal for small craft items, and the 5-gallon one is a solid portable option for larger projects.

Since the buckets are brand new, we're not sure yet if they'll be restocked regularly. And with the 25% off coupon expiring on Nov. 20, you may want to act fast if you're planning to gift these to the crafters in your life this holiday season.
