Somehow I’ve managed to push my silk clothes to the back of the closet—not because I don’t like them, but because I hate having to take them to the dry cleaner! So instead of adding a few dollars more to my dry-cleaning bill, I’ve found a better, more cost-effective solution that will also allow me to use a product that always seems to dominate a shelf in my stockpile: hair conditioner! Simply fill your sink with warm water (cold water for colors) and a tablespoon of conditioner. Soak your silk garments for a couple of minutes, rinse, then hang to dry. Hair conditioner also works as a great detergent when hand-washing your undergarments. No more avoiding those delicate fabrics or cringing when you throw your lingerie in the wash!
