Whether you're trying to save a little each week or seriously slash your grocery bill, couponing at Kroger is one of the easiest ways to get more for your money. You can save with the Kroger Mega Sale, high-value digital coupons, and Kroger Super Digital Savings Events, plus rewards programs and more.
Kroger is the third-largest grocery chain in the U.S. after Costco and Walmart. So even if you don’t have a Kroger nearby, you might live near a Kroger affiliate like Fred Meyer, King Soopers, or Fry's. (Find a full list of affiliate stores on the Kroger website.)
This guide breaks down exactly how to coupon at Kroger, for beginners and beyond. We’ll explain how to sign up for the Kroger Plus Card, use digital coupons, and stack sales with coupons so you can start saving big on groceries and other household essentials.
Let’s get started!
1. Download the Kroger app and The Krazy Coupon Lady app.
If you want to get serious about Kroger, you’ll definitely want to download the free Kroger coupon app (available for iOS/Android). You can sign up online or visit the customer service desk at your local store to register in person. Once you’ve linked your Kroger Shopper’s Card in the app, you can use it to load Kroger Cash Back offers, scan items in-store to find matching coupons, use Kroger Pay for contactless checkout, and browse and clip Kroger digital coupons that will come off automatically at checkout.
Scan item barcodes in the Kroger app to find coupons.
You don’t have to clip all your coupons before heading to the store — you can find deals as you shop. Scan a product’s barcode using the Kroger app, and you’ll instantly see the product details and any available digital coupons or cash-back offers.
If there’s a coupon available, just clip it right then and there. Scan clearance items too. If a manufacturer coupon is available, it may apply.
KCL TIP: Put your Kroger app in Store Mode to scan items as you shop. It’ll apply coupons automatically, and you can track your total in real time.

You'll also want the KCL app to find the latest verified Kroger couponing deals. Download the free The Krazy Coupon Lady app and set Kroger (or a Kroger affiliate store) as one of your preferred stores. You’ll receive deal alerts as soon as we post them. We also break down exactly which coupons and promos you'll need to get the best deals from the Kroger weekly ad.
2. Sign up for a free Kroger Plus account and get a Shopper's Card.
Before you can start saving, you’ll need a Kroger account linked to a Kroger Shopper’s Card. Signing up is completely free (you can do it online or in-store), and it gives you access to Kroger digital coupons, plus personalized coupons (called “Best Customer Coupons”) that can be used at Kroger or any of the other stores that Kroger owns. You'll need a valid email address and a Shopper's Card number (if you have one).
The main reason is access — digital coupons and members-only sale prices are only available to cardholders . But that’s not all. The card also comes with several helpful perks:
-
Order your groceries online.
-
Access Kroger Cash Back offers.
-
Receive personalized Kroger emails (including the weekly ad and special offers).
-
View and manage Fuel Points.
-
Create and maintain your shopping list.
-
Manage your prescriptions.
KCL TIP: If you don’t have a Shopper's Card number, you can create an alternate ID (usually a phone number) during online registration. Create your virtual alternate ID instantly.
What about Boost Membership?
Boost is a paid membership program offered by Kroger that provides extra benefits like 2x Kroger Fuel Points, free grocery delivery, and access to select streaming services.
While Boost isn't required to save money at Kroger, it may be worth exploring. There's a $69 per year plan and a $99 per year plan. Compare the different Boost levels.
3. View the Kroger weekly ad in the app to find deals, or follow Kroger in the KCL app.
To view the weekly ad, open the Kroger app and tap the "weekly ads" tab at the bottom. You’ll see the top deals for the week; this is a great place to start your shopping list.

4. Shop Kroger sales.
Couponers can take advantage of weekly sales. Here are the three main sales you'll find at Kroger:

5. Use coupons at Kroger for maximum savings.
Stack Kroger digital coupons with sale prices.

One of the best ways to save at Kroger is by stacking: Combining digital coupons with sale prices, like the ones we see during Mega Savings Events (aka their mix and match sales). You’ll typically see these sales advertised in the weekly ad or on shelf tags like this: “Buy 5+, Save $1 per Item,” “Buy 3+, Save $2 per Item,” or “Buy 10+, Save $0.50 per Item.”
And every week, Kroger has hundreds of new digital coupons you can access through either the Kroger app or their website. Using the app is especially handy in-store because you can scan barcodes of products to instantly check for available deals and coupons.
Coupons adjust down.
Be aware that Kroger doesn't allow coupon overage. If the value of a coupon exceeds the price of the item, the discount will be adjusted down to match the item’s price.
Example: If you have a $2 coupon and the item is on clearance for $1.99, the coupon will take off $1.99 , not the full $2.
Stacking
Stacking is the term for combining coupons. You can stack digital or manufacturer coupons with sales like the Mega Event. You can't combine any other coupons with 5x Digital Deals, however, since they count as your one allowed coupon.
Paper Coupons
Yes, Kroger accepts paper coupons, like the ones you print online or find in newspaper coupon inserts . You can use paper coupons at Self Checkout and for pickup orders. Just remember, at Kroger, you can only use one coupon per item. That includes paper coupons, digital coupons, and some store discounts that act like coupons. Find the official Kroger coupon policy here.
Kroger's Cash Back Rewards Program
Kroger’s Cash Back Rewards program lets you earn money on select items by loading offers in the app and buying qualifying products at Kroger or affiliates like Fred Meyer or Fry’s. Just clip offers, scan your Shopper’s Card at checkout, and redeem your cash back via PayPal or store credit.
