Kroger’s Mega Sale is a regular store promo. But what kind of deals are there? Do I need a coupon to shop the Mega Sale? How will I know the sale is even happening?
We’re here to help. Follow these tips and you’ll be shopping the Mega Sale like a pro.
If there’s a Mega Sale happening, you’ll find it advertised online and in the Kroger ad.
Mega Sales are super common — you’ll see them more weeks than not. Follow Krazy Coupon Lady’s Kroger Deal page to find out what the best deals are each week.
When you buy a certain number of products, Kroger will give additional dollars-off discounts.
The number of participating products you have to buy varies (as does the discount) — but here are some examples of how it has been:
- Buy 5 participating items, save $5.00
- Buy 6 participating items, save $3.00
- Buy 10 participating items, save $5.00
Look for a red or blue price tag to indicate Mega Sale items.
You can learn a lot just by looking at the color of the price tag in Kroger stores.
- White price tag = regular price
- Yellow price tag = sale price
- Red or Blue = Mega Sale price
If you don’t buy enough items to get the Mega Sale price, you’ll pay the price on the yellow tag (or the white if the item doesn’t have a yellow tag).
Make sure you have the right number of items — otherwise you’ll overpay at the register.
Let’s say you buy four packages of Chobani yogurt in the Mega Sale for $2.79 each, regularly $3.79. You expect your total to be $11.16.
But wait! You needed FIVE boxes to get the Mega Sale price, so your total comes up as $15.16.
Pay attention to your product count.
Add inexpensive filler items to hit your Mega Sale quota.
Yes, there are Mega Sale filler items! We like to find items that are $1.00 or less and part of the Mega Sale to throw in our cart if we need to hit that set number of items.
In a recent Mega Sale, I was one item short, so I tossed in some organic tomato sauce at just $0.50 a can to reach my item number and get the sale.
Not everything in the Mega Sale is advertised in the ad — but you can still find the items easily.
There are usually hundreds of items in the sale, so leave some wiggle room in your plan for unadvertised Mega Sale items. You can spot them in the store easily — Kroger keeps the signs obvious.
Bonus: Kroger keeps a printed list of included products on their front racks of the store, usually where the current ads are kept. You can also ask Customer Service for a copy.
Stack coupons with Mega Sale items.
This is one of the best things about the Mega Sale — you can score even lower deals by stacking coupons on top of the Mega Sale prices.
Kroger only accepts up to five like manufacturer coupons in a single transaction, so don’t plan to use 15 of the same exact Huggies Wipes coupon during the sale.
This doesn’t mean you can’t use more than five coupons — just no more than five of the same coupon. You can still use as many coupons as you have items at Kroger.
Buy Mega Sale items, stack coupons, and get Catalinas for an even better deal.
If you get a Mega Sale item that you can stack with a coupon that also has a Catalina offer, then snap it up!
Catalinas are coupons that print out at the register at the end of your transaction. Many times Kroger will offer Catalinas as $1.00 or more off your next purchase — so yeah, free money.
Don’t worry — we will keep you informed of any ongoing Catalina deals at Kroger.
The Mega Sale price tag will tell you if there are limits on how much of an item you can buy.
We don’t often see limits on the number of Mega Sale items you can buy, but keep an eye out for “Reward Limit” in the lower right corner of the Mega Sale tag.
If that happens, just buy the limit amount of that product, and use filler items to get you to the correct number you need to get the Mega Sale price.
Look for the <+ symbol on your receipt to spot a Mega Sale item.
The Mega Sale items are usually marked with a <+ symbol. This makes them easy to spot when you’re scanning your receipt for accuracy — probably in the parking lot if you’re anything like me.
Take your receipt to customer service if you don’t count your items correctly — they’ll help you make it right.
Let’s say you added wrong and you were one item away from getting the Mega Sale prices, but you’ve already paid — hey, it happens.
We suggest grabbing another Mega Sale item and taking it and your receipt to customer service. They will help you make it right so you can get your deal.
