Just to get us salivating over the toys and games coming out on Amazon this 2021 season, they’ve mailed out their 7.65-ounce beast of a Holiday Kids Gift Book, called “Ready, Set Play.” I got mine today and I’ll tell you what’s in it.
For the fourth year in a row, Amazon has sent select customers a printed toy catalog, giving digital shoppers an analog way to create their holiday wish lists. It’s bigger this year and nuts.
Unfortuantly, there isn’t a way to manual order this toy book. Amazon randomly sent it out to households.
Here’s what you need to know:
You can scan any item in the Gift Book using the Amazon app to shop.
They’ve made it pretty easy to connect the printed book to the digital marketplace. If you see something you like in the Holiday Kids Gift Book, just open up the Amazon app, tap the camera icon next to the search bar, and then scan the product image.
You’ll be taken to that product’s listing on Amazon, where you can add it to your cart.
You can also scan the QR code; it will give you a digital copy of the Gift Book.
When you scan the QR code on a page, it gives you the Holiday Kids Gift Book in your browser. Scroll through the pages, tap on products, and they go right into your cart.
Or, you could just write down your favorites on the included tear-out wish list card and search for them later.
There are more than 99 pages of toys in the Holiday Kids Gift Book.
Each page has its own theme, (Toys We Love, Effortless Entertainment) or they focus on a particular brand (Paw Patrol, Baby Shark, Melissa & Doug, etc.) or a genre (Ready to Play with video games & tech, Outdoor Fun with basketball hoops and outdoor toys, Snuggle Up for a Story with top books).
Amazon released their “Toys We Love” list online back in September, and the Holiday Kids Gift Guide opens with a portion of that list, sharing 30 of the toys on the huge product list. (But if you scan the QR code on pages 7-11, you’ll be able to browse/shop the full list.)
There’s a page for grown-ups to create a holiday gift registry to share with family.
The “Calling All Grown-Ups” page talks about extended delivery deadlines, returns, Prime benefits, and links to the Holiday Toy List.
There’s a Roblox freebie on page 30.
Amazon is giving Roblox players a free digital avatar they can use in the game (it’s a snowman).
To get the freebie, turn to page 30 and follow the instructions in the blue rectangle.
The book also has coloring, cooking, and crafting activities.
There are 8 different kid-friendly activities scattered throughout this year’s Wish Book:
- A tear-out postcard you can send to friends
- A Woodland Map with a fun iSpy game on pages 4 – 5
- A Short Story with a QR code that lets you make the fox from the story appear in AR mode on page 12
- A cute set of stickers on page 15
- A maze on page 36
- A card stock matching game you can tear out on page 51
- Coloring pages on pages 65 and 99
- A DIY on how to cut out creatures with your Amazon box on page 98 (and a link to stencils on Amazon/cardboard creations)
