In preparation of Earth Day coming up on April 22, 2023, The Krazy Coupon Lady is always hunting for the latest Earth Day deals or giving all the info on stores that reward you for recycling. And in March 2023 Hydro Flask has unveiled their first-ever “Water Bottle Trade-In Program” in the U.S., where people can trade in their old, broken, or unused Hydro Flask bottles and Hydro Flask stainless steel items for recycling and in return receive a $5 store credit to be used on HydroFlask.com.
According to Hydro Flask, since stainless steel bottles are not recyclable by most curbside recycling programs and end up in a landfill, they started this initiative to make sure their bottles are recycled properly. Here’s how the trade-in program works, how to get the $5 coupon, and more.

How to trade in a Hydro Flask you no longer use for a $5 coupon
Hydro Flask promises that your old products will be “recycled efficiently and properly” once they receive the item. Even better, you don’t need to package your item to trade it in. Here’s how to start the process:
- Register your product and print shipping label.
- Empty contents of the Hydro Flask you’re trading in.
- Keep any caps, lids, boots, or straws that you’d like to reuse and send them the rest.
- Apply the label to your item and drop off at your nearest FedEx location.
- Hydro Flask receives the item and recycles it.
- You get a $5 promo code to use on a purchase on HydroFlask.com, including on the MyHydro personalization program.
You can also trade in various Hydro Flask products, not just bottles.
While they cannot accept stainless steel bottles from other companies besides Hydro Flask, you CAN send in other products of theirs, including tumblers, mugs, food jars, bowls, and plates. So if you’ve been wanting to spring clean and load off the Hydro Flask items you don’t use anymore, this is a great way to recycle them. However, Hydro Flask bags, totes, and coolers are “not accepted during this first phase of the Hydro Flask Trade-In program.”

You will get a $5 coupon for each item you trade in.
If you have more than one Hydro Flask item to return, you’ll also be rewarded for it, as you’ll get a $5 coupon per Hydro Flask item returned. The promo codes will be emailed to you — however, they can only be used one code per order. That means you can’t stack two $5 promo codes on one order. So far we haven’t seen a limit on how many items a person can trade in.
To make it easy, you can pack multiple items in a box and put the free shipping label to the package.
Don’t worry if your Hydro Flask has stickers on it — it’s still able to be traded in.
Hydro Flask explains that stickers “won’t affect the recycling process.” For now, Hydro Flask doesn’t have plans to sell the pre-loved bottles they get. “As we process and assess the items that start to come in, we’ll be able to think about next steps in this program,” they state. “Stay tuned.”
Signing up to trade in one of my bottles was easy.
I had one bottle that I haven’t used in years, since now I’m such a Stanley tumbler and Owala tumbler fan. Here’s how the trade in process worked for me:
Once you sign in or create an account, click on “Trade-In Forms.”
From there, fill out how many items you have and your email.
And then wait for your email with your free shipping label. Print, add to your item(s), and head to FedEx!
Use your $5 on a new Hydro Flask water bottle.
