With everyday costs rising a whole bunch in the midst of inflation, even little price hikes feel like death by a million cuts… like when we heard about the 10% Netflix price increase was announced in January 2022. We also learned that a new, cheaper, ad-supported tier was coming to Netflix.

Ads on Netflix? Are you ready for this? How many ads are we talking about? Is it worth paying a lot less for Netflix each month? We’ve looked into the new ad-supported Netflix tier to find out how much it’ll cost and when we can expect it to come out.

Of course, we know every way to binge-watch Netflix for cheaper.

Ad-Supported Netflix will be $6.99 starting Nov. 3.

As of Nov. 3, 2022, Netflix is offering their new ad-supported tier, Basic with Ads, for $6.99/month.

The other three tiers, Netflix Basic ($9.99/month), Netflix Standard ($15.49/month), and Netflix Premium ($19.99/month) aren’t affected.

That’s a 10% price difference from Netflix Basic, respectively.

How long are ads going to be on Netflix?

Ad-supported Netflix will have four-minute ads for every hour you watch, which is about the same amount of advertising time Hulu subscribers experience now — and what the upcoming ad-supported Disney Plus subscription will look like, too.

How can I share my Netflix subscription?

Recently, Netflix has cracked down on sharing accounts between households.

If you’re sharing an account with others, you’ll have to live in the same household to have access to your Netflix account. If you’re consistently logging in from a different location, you’ll be charged an additional $2.99 per household.

Netflix tracks this by detecting IP addresses, device IDs, and account activity from devices.

Each Netflix subscription comes with five profiles that you can add, so a Basic with Ads account with five people would cost $1.40 per person, per month. Just keep in mind that only one user can stream per account.

You’ll be able to access all the content on the ad-supported Netflix tier.

Don’t worry about missing any content with an ad-supported Netflix account. You’ll be able to access all the content on Netflix including Stranger Things, the Umbrella Academy, and Squid Game.

You will have to sit through an ad before viewing and an ad during the program but never at the end of the show.
