McDonald’s breakfast menu just got a big upgrade at certain locations. The Golden Arches is testing a collab with Krispy Kreme — and if things go well, we might see more locations add the iconic doughnuts to the McDonald’s menu.

Before you get all excited, there are some things you need to know about this team-up — including where you can get them, which doughnuts will be available, and whether you can get your McDonald’s Krispy Kreme doughnuts for delivery.

McDonald’s Krispy Kreme is selling at only a handful of locations — for now.

McDonald’s will be serving Krispy Kreme doughnuts starting on Oct. 26 at nine different locations in Kentucky. Every morning, area Krispy Kreme locations will transport fresh doughnuts to these Louisville-area McDonald’s restaurants.

McDonald’s customers in Louisville can purchase three types of Krispy Kreme doughnuts individually or in a 6-pack in person or via drive-thru:

  • Original Glazed
  • Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles
  • Raspberry Filled

Note: So far, Kentuckians can’t order these doughnuts through the McDonald’s app. However, if you still want to get points on your McDonald’s Rewards account, make sure to scan your McDonald’s Rewards code at checkout.

Krispy Kreme doughnuts aren’t available for McDelivery.

The Krispy Kreme doughnuts are only available in store or via drive-thru (not with McDelivery). But you can always get Krispy Kreme delivered to you with a third-party delivery service like DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub.

McDonald’s sells the doughnuts past breakfast — until they run out.

McDonald’s will be selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts until they run out for the day. So although you can place a doughnut order during McDonald’s breakfast hours (5 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. daily), they’ll sell doughnuts until they’re out of inventory. If this goes nationwide, expect some new items to be added to the McDonald’s secret menu.

Looking for even more of a discount when you’re picking up Krispy Kreme doughnuts? Head over to your local Walmart to find a few different boxed Krispy Kreme varieties for only $10.28 for a dozen. This Walmart deal is $2.51 cheaper than a dozen from Krispy Kreme.

(If you’re lucky, your Walmart is among the 150 or so that have a McDonald’s inside. So even if you’re not in Kentucky, you’ve got a one-stop shop for doughnuts and fries.)

When can I expect Krispy Kreme doughnuts to come to my local McDonald’s?

Right now, only nine McDonald’s locations have Krispy Kreme doughnuts available.

And while we’re not sure if/when this would be expanded from this test group, there’s reason to believe it’s gonna expand. First of all, there’s a joint press release from the two restaurants, where the companies say the test is to “inform future menu decisions.” And there’s been a lot of general excitement about this, so it’s pretty likely that this won’t just stay in Louisville.

This isn’t the first time Krispy Kreme has collaborated with a fast-food restaurant chain. In early 2020, Krispy Kreme and KFC joined to create the Doughnut Chicken Sandwich and to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts at KFC locations. KFC has since stopped selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
