UPDATED 1/19/2017

It’s no secret we’re big Amazon fans over here. We’ve found a lot of ways to save that most people overlook! Here are our top 13 ways to save money with Amazon (and most of these don’t require Amazon Prime).

1. Amazon’s TV price match policy is valid one month after your purchase.

Buy a TV on Amazon and see a cheaper price later? No worries! Amazon will refund you the difference with an Amazon gift card within 30 days of your purchase. They also apply this policy to cheaper retailers and take any shipping or promotions into account.

Tip: Amazon does this with specific retailers, so make sure to check their qualifying retailers list.

2. Paribus gets you price adjustments automatically.

While Amazon has recently changed their price adjustment policy, you can still use Paribus to save on Amazon TV purchases (as noted above). Paribus also works with many other retailers to automatically detect price drops by tracking your receipts. It’ll look for any price changes and missed coupon opportunities!

Sign up in less than 30 seconds on Paribus.co, then link your Amazon account and email address. They’ll get in touch with retailers on your behalf to get you paid and have the money refunded to you, usually via your original form of payment! Best part? Paribus is 100% free.

Check out our review of Paribus here.

3. Choosing ‘Free No-Rush Shipping’ earns you a $1 digital purchase or rental credit.

If you’re not in a rush for your items, select ‘FREE No-Rush Shipping’ (5 business days) during checkout at Amazon, and get a $1 credit towards any digital purchase or rental. Choose from TV shows, movies, music, eBooks, and much more!

Tip: Keep an eye out—sometimes Amazon changes the $1 credit to a $5.99 credit toward an Amazon Pantry purchase! To test this out, sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime.

4. CamelCamelCamel alerts you when Amazon prices drop.

Get price drop alerts with CamelCamelCamel, a website dedicated to tracking fluctuations in Amazon’s prices—and even your Amazon Wish List! In their search bar, you can look up any product by URL or keyword and see how the price has changed over time. When certain products drop, they’ll notify you via email and Twitter—all you need to do is create a free account.

Tip: Installing the CamelCamelCamel browser extension makes this process even easier.

5. Amazon allows unlimited online coupon stacking.

Did you know that Amazon has a coupon section? They offer coupons on beauty products, cleaning supplies, snacks, etc. We saw coupons running for 20% off Tom’s of Maine products and 30% off select items at Seventh Generation. Amazon allows unlimited coupon stacking, so we were able to apply both at checkout!

Tip: Best bet: combine Amazon coupons with Subscribe & Save prices. (Note: the coupon(s) will only apply to your first S&S shipment. Subsequent shipments will charge current selling price).

6. Get your sales tax back from Amazon with third-party sellers.

If you’ve noticed that Amazon charges you for sales tax when you purchase from an Amazon warehouse, fulfillment center, etc., it means you have an Amazon facility in your state. (See the 28 states Amazon collects tax from). You can avoid paying for this tax entirely by finding a third-party seller that isn’t in your state.

Tip: Your company or nonprofit may be tax-exempt already. If so, enroll in their tax exemption program with the Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP) tool.

7. Get up to 15% off with Subscribe & Save.

Another way I save is with Amazon Subscribe & Save. For items you buy frequently, this might be a great option. Get scheduled shipments delivered to you on a 1-month, 2-month, even 6-month basis and save 5% on your order. Subscribe to 5 or more items in a month, and save an additional 15%! (Don’t worry–you can cancel this service at any time).

Tip: If you’re under 5 items, add a filler item like dental floss, chapstick, bar soap, etc. It’s definitely worth adding the fifth product to get the added 15% on your entire shipment.

8. Get the deepest discount with Amazon Lightning Deals.

Within Amazon’s Gold Box Deals, they have an entire Lightning Deals section. Lightning Deals only last a certain amount of time and have a limited number of discounts, so you need to be quick! The deals last 24 hours unless all of the discounted products have been accounted for. You can find discounts from 10% off to 70% off or more! Not bad.

Tip: Amazon Prime members, you get a 30-minute preview before Lightning Deals go live to the public! So browse regularly—especially in the morning. If you see something you want, add it to your cart, and when they go live, all you have to do is check out.

9. Amazon Outlet offers overstock and markdown items for up to 70% off.

You no longer need to go to your nearest outlet mall, thanks to Amazon Outlet. The outlet shop mainly consists of overstock items and any clearance or markdowns. You can save up to 70% or more! Shop everything from electronics, toys, and jewelry to pet supplies.

Outlet offers will also appear in a regular Amazon search. So what’s the point of going straight to this page? Let’s say you want to search a specific brand, like Keurig. Search in the Amazon Outlet section, and you can easily find the best deals quickly rather than scouring through pages of ‘Keurig’ search results.

Tip: Try searching big-name brands and compare with a simple Google search to see what other retailers are selling for. We found this Keurig Coffee Maker for $136.30 on Amazon Outlet, and it was going for $149 at almost every other retailer!

10. Pre-ordering items gets you ‘add-on’ items without the $25 minimum.

Amazon’s ‘Add-on’ items are often very cheap, especially cheaper than buying in-store. The only catch is that you have to spend $25 or more to qualify for these items.

But what if your order isn’t more than $25 or you just want one item? Instead of adding items you don’t need, you can add a pre-ordered item to your cart. If you don’t actually want to buy the pre-order, simply cancel it after you receive your items, and BOOM–you just got less than $25 in add-ons (and free shipping)!

Tip: Make sure to pick a pre-order date that ensures you have enough time to cancel.

11. Amazon will give you the lowest price guaranteed when pre-ordering.

Speaking of pre-ordering, Amazon’s prices will sometimes fluctuate with not-yet-released items. However, Amazon guarantees that it will charge you the lowest price from the time you placed the pre-order to the time it ships. This goes for physical pre-orders, software and game downloads, Amazon music, and Kindle books.

Tip: Amazon Prime members get 20% off every video game pre-order (and orders up to two weeks after its release).

12. Warehouse Deals feature deep discounts on open-box and used products.

Why pay full price for an item when you can get it like-new at a discounted rate? Amazon Warehouse Deals offer quality checked and graded resale items. They’ll also tell you the condition (Example: A “Very Good” item comes in original packaging).

Worried that it may not come in the condition you expected? Have no fear! All Warehouse Deal products come with a 30-day return policy and are backed by Amazon’s customer service.

Tip: Filter by “New” items and land on an unopened package for the same price as one that’s been opened.

13. Amazon Prime members get membership extensions for missed shipping dates.

Amazon guarantees their 2-day shipping policy so much that when they miss their window, you can score an extra month of Amazon Prime for free. Just call customer service (1-888-280-4331) and you’ll be living the Prime life.
