Several US airlines offer last-minute airfare specials on Tuesdays for travel on the upcoming weekend. Most fares are non-refundable and must be purchased immediately, but these specials often represent significant savings even over the advance purchase fares. Below is a recap of this week's offerings.
United/Continental Airlines – Continental Airlines offers dozens of Internet specials this week, mostly to or from their hubs in Houston, Newark, Chicago, Cleveland and Denver. These fares must be purchased by 11:59 PM, Central on Friday, March 9 and apply to departures after 7 PM on March 9 or anytime March 10 with returns on Monday, March 12 or Tuesday, March 13. Taxes and airport fees are additional. A sampling of this week's fares include:
- Cleveland to Atlanta – $221
- Newark to Atlanta – $221
- Chicago/OHare to Atlanta – $221
- Cincinnati to Washington DC – $160
- Milwaukee to Cleveland – $160
- Newark to Columbus Ohio – $161
- Denver to Rapid City – $161
- Denver to Wichita – $161
- Houston to Louisville – $270
- Las Vegas to San Francisco – $161
US Airways – US Airways also offers weekly Internet specials. Their E-saver fares must be purchased by 11:59 PM, Eastern on March 10 for travel departing March 10 and returning March 13. The best fares I found include: (roundtrip without taxes and fees)
- Birmingham, AL to Philadelphia – $250
- Charlotte to San Antonio – $240
Delta Airlines Web Deals – Delta, like the others, offers airfares between special cities (often including their hub, Atlanta) for travel on the weekend. Tickets for these specials must be purchased by 11:59 PM on Saturday, March 10 and are non-refundable, once purchased. You must depart on Saturday, March 10 and return on Monday, March 12 or Tuesday, March 13. Below is just a sampling of this week’s specials. The fares listed are roundtrip and do not include taxes or airport fees, if applicable.
- Detroit to White Plains – $180
- Detroit to Louisville – $180
- Atlanta to Mobile – $180
- Atlanta to Oklahoma City – $220
Keep in mind that there are a limited number of seats for these Internet deals and they may sell out at any time. Be sure to read the fine print before purchasing your tickets, but if you see something that interests you, it's a good idea to buy your tickets immediately to avoid being disappointed.
