For travel newbies, several US airlines offer last-minute airfare specials beginning Tuesdays for travel on the upcoming weekend. Most fares are non-refundable and must be purchased immediately, but these specials often represent significant savings over advance purchase fares.
United Airlines – Dozens of Internet specials this week, mostly to or from their hubs in Houston, Newark, Chicago, Cleveland and Denver. Purchase before 11:59 p.m. (Eastern) June 22. Depart after 7 p.m. on June 22 or anytime June 23 and return on Monday, June 25 or Tuesday, June 26. Taxes and airport fees are additional. This week's fares include:
- Chicago to Washington DC – $221
- Cleveland to Charlotte, NC – $160
- Denver to Dallas – $221
- Houston to Atlanta – $220
- Indianapolis to Newark – $221
- San Francisco to Phoenix – $221
US Airways – Purchase E-saver fares by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on June 23 for travel departing June 23 and returning June 26. Taxes and fees are additional. The best round-trip fares:
- Akron to Washington DC – $200
- Washington DC to Nantucket – $230
Delta Airlines Web Deals – Airfares between special cities (often including their hub, Atlanta) for weekend travel. Purchase by 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Non-refundable, once purchased. You must depart on Saturday, June 23 and return on Monday, June 25 or Tuesday, June 26. The fares listed are round trip and do not include taxes or airport fees, if applicable. Here’s a sample:
