Apple cider vinegar is my favorite affordable, all-natural household multi-tasker. I use this salad dressing staple for everything from making my teeth whiter to weeding my garden. You'll love all of the benefits inside this little glass bottle.
1. Get a whiter grin
When my pearly whites need a brightening boost, I turn to apple cider vinegar for the sparkling solution. You can gargle two parts water with one part apple cider vinegar for one minute every morning or work it directly into your teeth before rinsing.
2. Make your garden grow—without a single weed
When my garden is lacking a little luster, I enlist the aid of apple cider vinegar. I use it to fertilize my acid-loving plants like primroses and lady slippers. To make your own fertilizer, mix 10 ounces of apple cider vinegar with 10 gallons of water. I also use it as an all-natural weed killer. Just pour the apple cider vinegar directly on the weed-infested area to stop those garden gremlins right in their tracks.
3. Keep your pets flea-free
I use apple cider vinegar to keep my furry friend's fleas at bay. You'll need to mix one part apple cider vinegar with one part water. Spray the mixture onto your pet's fur and work it into their skin. Make sure that you saturate the entire coat. Continue to apply the mixture daily for at least 3 days.
Bonus Tip: Apple cider vinegar can also keep your pets from shredding your electrical cords. Simply dab a cotton ball into some apple cider vinegar and thoroughly rub down your electrical cords every 4-5 days.
4. Stop itching
Apple cider vinegar can help your skin stop itching if you've been bitten by a bug, come in contact with poison ivy, or been stung by a jellyfish—so there's no reason to pee on it! Apply apple cider vinegar directly on your itchy area for an "Ah" moment of relief.
5. Soothe your sore throat
To soothe my sore throat, I drink an apple cider vinegar cocktail that includes warm water, apple cider vinegar, cayenne pepper and honey. Apple cider vinegar also contains health boosters (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and iron) that rocket you into a higher gear when you're under the weather. In addition, apple cider vinegar can help you clear your sinuses by killing germs and thinning mucus. Just sip ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar mixed with ¼ cup of warm water.
6. Improve your complexion
I use apple cider vinegar as an astringent. Just dilute it and apply it to your face. Apple cider vinegar's anti-inflammatory properties can also gradually fade purplish-blue bruises. Even better—this common household item can shrink acne and kill bacteria living on the surface of your skin. Mix one part apple cider vinegar with 3-4 parts water. Then apply the solution to your skin with a cotton ball. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then rinse. Repeat up to 3 times a day.
7. Nix your dandruff
I get rid of dandruff by rinsing my locks with apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar changes the pH of your scalp halting yeast growth, which is dandruff's main culprit. Plus, it helps get rid of greasiness, itching, and irritation while leaving your hair shiny and untangled. Try combining 2 tablespoons in a glass of water and rinsing your hair with it while you're in the shower. To really target unwanted flakes, combine ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup of water into a spray bottle. Squirt the mixture on your scalp and leave it for 1 hour before rinsing.
8. Boost your baking game
I use apple cider vinegar to give my batters a little lift. No one notices its mild taste. Plus, it enhances the flavors of other ingredients, especially in sweets.
