When is Cyber Monday (aka the biggest online shopping day of the year)? Cyber Monday 2022 will happen on Monday, Nov. 28. Some of the best Cyber Monday sales will have deals just as good (if not better) than Black Friday.
So when did Cyber Monday become a thing? Technically, it all started back in 2005. The National Retail Federation (NRF) noticed a boost in sales on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Through their research, they found out that shoppers were using their first day back in the office to search for holiday gifts online since the Internet at work was much faster than at home. Back then, online deals were rare on the Monday after Thanksgiving. But the trend was enough for the NRF to coin the term, “Cyber Monday.”
As online shopping became more popular, so did the post-Thanksgiving sales. That’s when retailers started to catch on, dishing out deals and discounts to boost Cyber earnings even more. Now it’s a full-blown sale event with deals comparable to Black Friday.
If you’re curious about what to expect for this year’s event, you came to the right place. Everything we know (including sale dates, trends, and tips) is explained below!

Cyber Monday always falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving, right as Black Friday sales are wrapping up. In 2022, the shopping holiday will happen on Nov. 28, but there’s a different date every year. Here are the dates from the last five years:
- 2022: Monday, Nov. 28
- 2021: Monday, Nov. 29
- 2020: Monday, Nov. 30
- 2019: Monday, Dec. 2
- 2018: Monday, Nov. 26
How long does Cyber Monday last?
Cyber Monday is officially a 1-day event, but retailers will often extend their sales. You’ll find the best deals at the beginning of the sale, but holiday savings will continue through the rest of the week.
Are Cyber Monday and Black Friday the same thing?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are two separate holiday shopping events. Black Friday falls on the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25, 2022), and Cyber Monday falls on the Monday afterward (Nov. 28, 2022). While Black Friday deals are almost always available in stores and online, the Monday deals are typically online only.
Will Cyber Monday be better than Black Friday?
Believe it or not, you’ll find a bunch of Cyber Week deals that beat the ones from Black Friday. For Amazon’s sale in 2021, the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer Hot Air Brush dropped to the lowest price ever at just $22.28 on Cyber Monday. You could also save $300 on the 2020 Apple iMac, which Amazon had for just $799 — down from its $879 sale price on Black Friday.

What to Expect for Cyber Monday 2022

You may not have to wait for Cyber Monday to get the deals.
Retailers like Target, Amazon, and Walmart like to drop their sales a day or two in advance. In 2021, Amazon’s sale started on the Saturday after Black Friday and ran through the end of Cyber Monday. Target and Walmart both started their sales on Sunday and ran deals for the rest of Cyber Week.
The best deals are on tech items.
Laptops, smart TVs, and wearable tech are typically the top things to buy. You’ll also find great deals on the latest smartphones. In 2021, Best Buy offered up to $900 off the iPhone 13 Pro. Overall, you can expect to save 40% – 50% on a variety of tech items.
Look for 2022 Cyber deals on:
- Amazon Alexa devices
- Smart TVs from LG, Sony, & Samsung
- Ring video doorbells
- Apple Macs and other laptops
- Apple Watches and Apple Airpods
- Vacuums and robot vacs
Buy the most popular items before Monday.
If you’re looking for deals on top toys or the latest video game consoles, don’t wait for Cyber Monday. Those items will likely sell out early (like, possibly before Black Friday).
With product shortages and delays happening again in 2022, shoppers will rush to get their hands on the hottest items as early as they can. If you plan to buy anything from Walmart’s 2022 Holiday Toy List, grab it ASAP or it might be gone!

Three Tips for Cyber Monday Success

1. Clear your browser cookies and go Incognito to avoid markups on the sites you visit.
Sometimes retailers will mark up online prices for shoppers who visit their sites frequently. They use cookies to track your online behavior, and if they think you’ll make a purchase no matter what, you may see higher prices than other shoppers who aren’t visiting as often. To prevent this from happening, all you have to do is clear your cookies in your browser settings and shop in a Private/Incognito window, instead.

2. Keep Fakespot.com open in a separate tab to see if Amazon reviews are legit.
When shopping on Amazon, it’s important to keep in mind that some people get paid to write Amazon reviews, or businesses will fake their own 5-star reviews to gain search traction. You can eliminate the problem completely on Cyber Monday by using Fakespot.com. The website analyzes each Amazon product page and grades it on an A through F scale. Trustworthy reviews get an A, and super sketchy reviews get an F.
3. Don’t ever pay for shipping on Cyber Monday.
It’s not that hard to avoid shipping fees on Cyber Monday. If you can’t find a free shipping offer or promo code and your order doesn’t meet the free shipping minimum, choose free curbside or store pickup instead. Getting free shipping is the cherry on top of seriously good savings.
