It’s time to stock up on Home Depot Christmas decorations for next year — we spotted a bunch of items for 75% off online and in stores, and all of it’s selling fast.

Just like Home Depot’s larger-than-life Halloween decor lineup this year, their collection of holiday decorations included even more over-the-top giant characters, animatronics, inflatables, and even a few unexpectedly scary yard decorations.

New items were in stock on HomeDepot.com as early as Aug. 10, and the hottest items (like the 8-foot towering Santa) went in and out of stock well before the fall season hit. Many of these Home Depot Christmas decorations are only available in stores at this point in the season, so it’s worth a trip to your local Home Depot to check on the discounts.

See what we’re finding in the 2023 inventory below. I even included some tips on how to save on Christmas decorations year-round at The Home Depot.

1. A new collection of Home Depot Christmas decorations came out in August.

In 2023, the Home Depot Christmas collection included several giant characters you could display in your yard — or inside your home (if it’s roomy enough).

As for the trends, we saw a lot of animated displays, life-like eyes, and taller-than-ever sizes that rival the 12-foot Home Depot Halloween skeleton that had its last hurrah this past season.

2. New Grinch-themed decor launched this year, like animatronics and inflatables.

This year, Home Depot dropped a couple of new animated Grinches in their lineup. The 4-foot Animated Grinch ($149) sings and dances and is made of fuzzy plush material, so it’s for indoor use only. The others (like the 6-foot Animated Grinch in an Ugly Sweater, $199) could be placed outside.

3. For the first time ever, Home Depot had an 8-foot-tall Santa for $299 and a 9-foot ornament arch for $249.

In 2023, Home Depot made it possible to go BIG with your Santa display! This was the first time they introduced giant yard characters quite this big. This Santa has glossy, UV-resistant paint and a glowing LED lantern.

Home Depot had even more Santa and reindeer animatronics in 2023:

4. New Disney decor included a 3.5-foot animated Yoda and an animated Mickey — both for $199.

If you bought the Home Depot Halloween Yoda that came out this past August, you might want to consider this holiday-themed one that will make him all Christmassy, complete with a sign and Santa hat. This animated Yoda speaks phrases, moves his eyes, and blinks. He’s meant for indoor use only. They launched an animated Mickey, too.

5. They released a giant LED Ornament Stack and Gift Box Stack (just like the Jack-o-Lantern Stack).

The 8-foot Jack-O-Lantern stack sold out for Halloween almost immediately, and the new holiday-themed version is just as popular! The 7.5-foot LED Ornament Stack includes five round ornaments of varying sizes, and it can be displayed in a stack or separately. They also have a gift box stack.

6. These LED holiday greeter animals are just $39.98 and can work indoors or outdoors.

Holiday-themed greeters like the Nutcracker and dogs make the perfect addition to your doorstep. In 2023, Home Depot had a variety of greeters between 2.5- and 3.5-foot tall.

7. The viral 7.5-foot Grand Duchess Pre-Lit Balsam Fir came back in 2023 — but it sold out fast.

Home Depot’s 7.5-foot Grand Duchess Tree first went viral during the 2022 season, and it made a return for this holiday season. But the tree went viral again, so you had to add your email to the waiting list for a restock alert.

One of the things we like about this tree is you can control the lights with the Home Depot Hubspace app right from your phone. The tree includes more than 2,200 LED lights and more than 10 light functions. It also comes in a 9-foot size ($499) and a 12-foot size ($899).

Here’s how to see if the Grand Duchess Tree is in stock:

  • Check the availability here. Bookmark this link and check it frequently.
  • Sign up for restock updates with your email.
  • Update/change your zip code to see the availability of nearby stores.
  • Check on Facebook Marketplace for a secondhand tree.

8. This 6-foot-tall animated Jack Frost has LED eyes and an icy laugh.

If you want a little bit of spooky with your holiday cheer, Home Depot’s realistic 6-Foot Animated LED Jack Frost may be right up your alley. He’s complete with creepy eyes, a disturbing laugh, and glitter-tipped eyebrows and hair spikes. Similar to other Home Depot animatronics, Jack Frost is $199. He’s currently out of stock online and in stores.

If you can’t find Jack Frost, they released another creepy holiday character this season — the 6-Foot Animated LED Skeleton Santa for $149.

Tips for Saving on Home Depot Christmas decorations:

You can shop Home Depot Holiday decor year-round.

someone shopping for Christmas decorations on the Home Depot website

Although The Home Depot holds most of their holiday lineup for a specific drop date, you can still shop many Christmas essentials year-round. Granted, you won’t find these items in stores the whole year, but you can shop them online. Many items offer free ship-to-store or free delivery.

Do your own price comparison using Google Image Search.

It’s easy to get caught up in the holiday hype and buy something in a rush before it goes out of stock, without thinking about what it’ll do to your budget. However, if you prepare ahead of time, you can know if you’re getting a good deal on seasonal stuff, like Home Depot’s Christmas decorations.

For any item you shop for that has an image, you can use Google Image Search to show you other sites that have the same exact item or items that resemble the product you’re stalking. Here’s a quick tutorial on how to use the Google Image Search tool:

  • Right-click on a product image.
  • Select “Search images with Google.”
  • Use your cursor to select which image on the site you’d like to search. It’s okay if it’s not a perfect cutout or if the image is small. Google can even work with poorly cropped and low-res photos.
  • Find the Google Lens sidebar pop-up on the right-hand side of your browser.
  • From there, scroll through the results and easily compare prices.

Wait for holiday clearance sales to save on Christmas decor.

After-holiday clearance sales offer some of the year’s best savings. We’re talking about discounts of 50% or more on in-store holiday items. Of course, during these end-of-season sales, stuff goes fast, and merchandise is usually limited. So, while you can save, you may not get what you really wanted.

Use the Home Depot military discount to save 10%.

Get an easy 10% off your holiday decor purchase by taking advantage of the Home Depot military discount. Keep in mind that it only works on regular-price merchandise.

You’ll just need to verify your military status in your Home Depot account, then your discount will automatically apply online at checkout. To use the discount in-store, show the virtual ID that will get generated in your Home Depot account.

Select store pickup for large Christmas decor to save on shipping costs.

Home Depot Curbside pickup

Home Depot offers free shipping on over two million items online. However, for items they don’t cover, shipping can be costly. Instead, go with store pick-up and save yourself the shipping costs.

Protect your holiday decor with storage bags or containers.

Preserve your Home Depot Christmas decorations by storing them in their original packaging. If that’s not an option, Home Depot offers several storage containers and bags. For larger animatronics and statues, Christmas tree storage bags can work just fine.
